Root Question re: 'kernel panic' error on Velocity V0.4

I've been enjoying V0.4 quite a bit, but I've also run into kernel panic errors frequently - something I had never experienced with V0.2 or V0.3

I had KPs 2 or 3 times doing random, mundane tasks like adjusting ADW launcher settings and configuring my Google Voice app, but it started getting really frequent when playing Angry Birds.

I never OC'd, but I thought I'd try flashing the kernel included for phones that have trouble OC'ing to see if that helped. It seemed to, a bit. I played Angry Birds for 20-30 minutes after flashing and it was fine, but I played again last night for another 20 minutes or so and it happened again.

My main question isn't 'why is the KP happening?' rather it's more 'what does this do to me phone? Will continued KPs damage the phone?'

As soco said, the reason it kp's is so that no damage is done, and you get kp's from running your device on too high of a frequency, back it down to the next lowest frequency and it should stabilize.

If you're having these issues w/o oc'ing, you better check the velocity 0.4 thread, I think there was something about a different kernel for those who can't overclock...you might also have to reflash velocity to correct this.

I said in the OP that I never OC'd it and I've recently flashed the other kernel. Still happening, though not as frequently.

If I were you, I'd consider reflashing velocity...if the alternate kernel still has kp's, you might have gotten a glitch during flashing. can't hurt to try

i can oc my ally to a stable 844 its not until i use easytether that i get a KP.
it doest matter if im at 729 or 866 or in between, a few minutes of easytether or data intensive apps i get KP.
