Just a heads up that discussion of app piracy using programs such as installous is frowned upon on the forums.
As for task management, you shouldn't have to do to much managing of apps once you have set your polling frequency for Widgets and applications. Do not use a task killer as they cause more harm than good on Froyo and Gingerbread. You will see decreased reliability and battery life killing apps constantly because of the file system used to build Android. If you want you can use something like Juice Defender to control various functionality like disabling data when the phone is sleeping so the battery isn't being used to update Widgets when the phone isn't awake.

Have you tried unmounting it and remounting it or sticking it in a PC and formatting it?
