I have a note 2 or it could be a 3. Either way I'm getting a message that says 'message may be corrupted on recipients phone' BUT this only happens when including an emoticon ☺ !!! I have googled the crap out of this and nowhere on this phone is there a setting for input mode - automatic. Can anybody hellllllpppppplease..

go to STANDARD messaging app, press menu button - select settings, scroll down to sms settings - there you are - sms creating mode - auto, gsm, Unicode. put it to auto for trouble-free solution. gsm & Unicode sux, I've tried and ppl received sms wrong-encoded.

I followed your steps and not seeing a create mode.
