Root Questions about rooting and backing up LG Optimus V

I know there are so many other threads like this, but I'm looking for some information in one place or some people to tell me how to get this done.

I am looking at using Z4Root as a one-click option to root the LG Optimus V. Has anybody done this, and if it works, does it just root the phone, keeping the stock ROM on the phone?

I'm also looking into having the ability to go to custom ROMs but having the ability to backup the stock ROM beforehand, in order to always have the ability to go back to unrooted, original stock handset status at any time. Which app does better: Nandroid Backup or Clockwork Recovery?
And do both of these apps give the ability to completely backup the stock ROM, and again, if so, how is this done properly as to backup everything to allow reversion to stock handset status?

I know I'm being a complete n00b, but if this amazing community would be willing to put up with me for now, I'll learn quick.

Check out the other posts in this section for rooting and flashing recoverys and roms. You can root with superone click then install superuser from the market. You can then make a backup of settings and apps with Titanium backup. To backup the stock rom the only way I know how is by flashing an alternate recovery. Clockwork recovery allows you to make a nandroid backup and make a complete backup of your current rom. As far as I know you can't run nandroid without a different recovery being flashed.
After you have something like clockwork, make a nandroid backup then you can flash a different rom from within the recovery.
Check out the romtools thread http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...3-1-ex-recoveryflasher-tons-new-features.html it makes it very easy.

I used superoneclick 1.7 as tcklord suggested and it worked just fine. I didn't even have to download superuser I guess superoneclick installed it for me.? From there I can run apps that need root access. I've yet to enter the world of ROM, but rooting alone can bring many more options.
