Root Questions about rooting?

Hey im new to this site and have a few questions
1.What is the maximum speed the processor can be overclocked to?
2.Do custom roms need to be specific to the model or can you jut use any you find?? if so whats a good site?
3.Does the z4root app work to root the captivate

This is something everyone needs to read before you do anything. I personally recommend reading a as much as possible before you start flashing. There is a lot of information on capfaq.com and you need to know as much as possible before you end up with a $500+ paper weight

1. The current safe over clock (last time I checked) is aprox 1.2 GHz; the devs say it can go as high as 1.6, but that has yet to happen. Plus going too high can fry your phone.

2. YES; any rom you try must be for the captivate, there are some I9000 roms and such that have been hacked to work on the captivate; so don't try to flash a Sprint Epic 4G rom for example unless someone has ported it to the captivate (and that is still very risky). There is a ROM Table at Capfaq.com that shows all of the current Captivate ROMs and their features.

3. Yes, it takes forever, but yes and it is the easiest in my opinion.
