Root Questions about rooting

Hey im new to this site and have a few questions
1.What is the maximum speed the processor can be overclocked to?
2.Do custom roms need to be specific to the model or can you jut use any you find?? if so whats a good site?
3.Does the z4root app work to root the desire

1. On my Desire(CDMA) the maximum overclock setcpu(the app) lets me OC is 1113 MHz
2. Yes, you need to find out what kind of phone you have. For example, I have a CDMA Desire so I can only flash ROMs that are made for a CDMA Desire. Cyanogen is the only one i've used so far and its pretty solid.
3. I've only used the Unrevoked Method to root. It's fairly easy. I had to do some trouble shooting but I found all the info I needed to root on these forums.

Some problems I had while rooting was, when I was in the driver installing phase, I had to install HTC Sync to get the drivers, then uninstall it. Besides that it was pretty painless.

1) Using 1152 myself, some are using 1190. It will go further but not so stable

2) Each custom rom is matched to a specific handset

4) Z4root does work but its not a full root. From memory I think you loose SU rights on reboot and don't get a custom recovery so you can't flash a custom rom. Unrevoked is the way to go - it really is easy, getting the drivers loaded on your pc is the toughest bit
