Questions about update my E to 2.2 Froyo

Hi there, I`m wondering about update my Acer Liquid E from 2.1 to 2.2 android version.
I`ve read many "How to" etc. BUT better informed than bricked!
So I have no brand Acer Liquid E, which I bought few days ago.
Here some information:
Build number:
Acer_LiquidE_1.100.09_EMEA_GEN1
Kernel version:
2.6.29
FW version:
2.1-update1
.................
So of course I read here. I should find *.bin file with "EMEA_GEN1" which is THERE. So with this *.bin file I can upgrade my android by microSD card solution? (put in on root of microSD, turn off, volume down+camera+power-on ... bla bla)?
For example this stuff 4.002.08_EMEA-GEN1_05.01.05(For Liquid E 512MB)
I really like either this Eiclar version, but want to use flash and other stuffs in 2.2.

Hey, since you have an E, it is not required to flash the .bin.

Download the .zip from here and follow the instructions. Nothing should go wrong but if anything does, Acer's fault.

but there is no more update by microSD only by PC... :confused:
 
Yeah Acer should seriously do a better job at letting you know an upgrade is available on their site.

But yeah, it is very simple. Unzip the .zip and follow the instructions on the PDF.
 
Hmm, new OS works fine, but I think i have problem with camera... when it was version 2.1, the camera was set to 5 MPX and higher quality "super fine". Now settings are same, but the photos are 4x smaller (on disc). The resolution is same, but there is DPI difference 92dpi on 2,1 version and 72dpi on 2,2 version of OS. I think the picture quality is bit lower. But not 100%.
 
Hmm could this be related to the EXIF Data Bug within Liquids on Froyo?

Not really knowledgeable about anything related to cameras but I do know that a bug concerning EXIF data on pictures is available on some (if not all) Acer Froyo ROMs. This has been fixed on Liquid Community ROM (LCR also includes the camera app from the Liquid Metal which is supposed to be much better) but flashing that requires rooting the device. Note, that this does void the warranty but it is easy to unroot the device in the case that you need to send it in for a warranty repair.

If you want to do this:
1) Install MalezRecovery- acer-liquid-malez-recovery - Project Hosting on Google Code
2) Download the LCR .zip file for LCR 2.0- LCR Community Rom - News
3) Place the .zip into the root of your SD Card (not any folders or anything)
4) Reboot into recovery (instructions for that on the Google Code page above)
5) Navigate to the Backup/Restore Menu and create a Nandroid Backup (always a good idea to have a backup of a stable system on your SD Card at all times. I very highly doubt anything would go wrong but better safe than sorry. Also, if you do not like the ROM, then restoring the backup would get you back to, exactly the way it currently is)
5) Navigate to the Flash/Test Menu and select the "Flash .zip from SD Card" option (LCR is signed, so the first option is the one you want) and then select the LCR .zip file
6) Reboot and voila (first boot might even take a while)

Btw, installing this does wipe all your data/SMS/call logs/apps so back up everything you need (I believe for market apps, the market syncs with your Google account).
 
Ok I`ll try this LCR modded froyo for Liquid E.
If i would like to unroot my Liquid, only roll back my restored image? Same way by recovery mode. If something happends during installation process and phone becomes bricked, can be at home unbricked?
Hope my phone will work after this upgrades. :D
 
hmm flashed and looks good, reactions are better and camera too :). Now it can record video in HD. But not focus during recording. I am satisfied

I don't think Superuser can be removed unless you unroot the phone and go back to a stock ROM (it is the app that gives you root access to the phone) BUT system apps (ie SetCPU which is pretty much pointless since there is no overclock kernel on this ROM) can be easily removed either through Titanium Backup (fastest) or by turning on USB Debugging, going into LCR Settings (easiest, slightly longer) and then going into the Apps & Add-Ons menu.

Also if you use the launcher, LauncherPro (available on market), you can easily hide apps from appearing on the app drawer (on homescreen, hit the menu button, then hit Preferences, then hit General Settings, then hit Hidden Apps).

wow.. i am dissapointed with this "hacked" 2.2 Froyo from LCR, but it seems that my backud is dead :D I have only nandroid folder with restorepoint it won`t work anymore :confused:
how can i restore to unroot software of froyo 2.2 ? can i use image from acer website in recovery mode (backup menu) or simply How to unroot my phone and install basic 2.2 Froyo?

Hmm that is weird. Never had that problem before.

To unroot the device, you have to flash the .bin for the firmware you want.

List of bins are here- Acer Liquid, Liquid E, Liquid Metal ALL ROMs bin extract collection - Android @ MoDaCo (once again, I recommend 4.002.14.EMEA.GEN1)

Also, doing this wipes everything on your phone, puts stock firmware onto your phone. After first boot, you will be using Acer UI (to disable that, Settings-->Applications-->User Interface-->Android UI).

I recently want to LCR on my Acer liquid E and am moving it. What applications are not working for you? I was reading somewhere that you need to wipe your SD card BEFORE going to LCR if you have ever used apps2SD before. Hustlin, have you heard about that as well?
 
When it says apps2sd it is referring to the ext2 method (which I use and always wipe prior to flashing any updates to LCR or any different ROMs). It is not the standard Froyo method (I don't think).

But no, never had any problem with any app not working. May I ask which apps have been the problem for you?

The LCR isn`t as bad as i said post before. I am only new at using android.
Applications works good for now. :)
LCR is in few ways really better like original Froyo. (camera,more apps, more setting, lot of really good things)
LCR is just better.
But still there is space for software improvement.
Specially I hate slow unlocking, low audio level with earphones etc (but some things maybe cannot be upgraded)
And I really hate USB-connected screen (in Eiclar there was only icon in notifications)
But i very appreciate LCR-teams work :cool:

Yes i know about this app, but this doesn`t fix it for me. There is some thing like "compression of sound" or some like this, but this thing only degrade the sound quality.... it sounds like overload amplifer with limiter (so all frequencies are at same power outpu level, and all instruments are getting together blabla)
I`m gonna to buy portable headphone amplifer (Fio E5) and i hope signal to noise ratio will be good :).
I think this is no limitation of audio processor and amplifer of Liquid , but limitation of software (drivers, or some like this).
My earphones have impedance 16 ohms and high sensitivity, so it is not difficult to power them. up(I haven`t got Sennheiser HD800 or some like this :D )
