Questions Before I Order the Samsung Galaxy S2

Oimie

Newbie
Since I do not like the U.S. models of the Samsung Galaxy S2, I'm planning to order the model i1900 from here:
Buy Samsung GALAXY S II i9100 White (16GB, SIM Free/Unlocked) Reviews
It will be unlocked.

I have very little knowledge on Androids so it would be great if someone can answer some of my questions.

1. I live in the US and I'm using T-Mobile and plan to stay with T-Mobile. Will T-Mobile work with this phone? Since it's going to be already unlocked I just need to place my SIM card in and it and it should start working right?
2. Will 3G or 4G be compatible with it? Someone told me it isn't and I would be stuck with EDGE.

If there is anything else I should know please let me know. Thanks~~

1. Yes. But you will need to add the data APN which is easy to do.
2. No 3G/4G. It does not have AWS bands needed for T-Mobile USA.

AWS band is 1700/2100 MHz -- one frequency is used for upstream, the other for downstream. The issue is with the 1700 MHz channel; the international versions of the SGS2 do not support it, nor can they be made to support it with firmware.

As I understand it, T-Mo USA uses only this band for their 3G/4G -- it's not like AT&T which uses different bands depending on location. That being the case, not being able to support the AWS band effectively keeps you from using 3G/4G on the T-Mo USA network. There's always data roaming, which you could theoretically do on the AT&T network, but that would run into major $$$.

Thanks for replies guys. Ahh I don't know what I should do right now. Maybe I'll just get the iPhone4s...
