Root questions before i root

Im about to root my esteem. Is it gonna reset anything? like my apps or contacts? what about when i install a custom rom? will it erase all my apps and shit? I read the directions how to do these things but saw no where it it wipes my stuff clean. for the best out of my esteem what should i do in what order and still be able to go back to stock if need be. Does it really make this phone a whole lot better? i can already do more than i imagined than when i got it. its not gonna slow it down? my ascend seemed faster at first but then it just seemed like garbage. dont want that to happen.

It will help you speed up your phone. You will love your phone so much more. I would never go back to an unrooted Esteem. Rooted all the way. You can always go back to stock either by flashing or by taking an update from LG. It will wipe everything clean if you install a new rom if you just root then no. Good luck.
