Root Questions/problems with .596

Hi there. I'm kind of new with forums so go easy on me.

I've been messing with my Droid X1 for a few weeks now. I've rooted, installed GB, bricked, sbf'd... you name it I've tried to tackle it lol. My problem is everytime I use the .340 to .596 method to put gingerbread on my phone my phone starts randomly freezing whenever it wants. This happens deodexed or odexed. It's driving me crazy, I've sbf'd and tried again. I've re-downloaded all the ROM's, apks, and everything else several times to see if perhaps there was corruption... but all to no avail. Everytime I get to .596 it locks itself up (Randomly as I said before). I've even tried to install Liberty and Apex (Gingerbread versions) to see if things changed. I'd wipe using Clockwork (D2 Bootstrapper), follow all the instructions... blah blah blah. I still get freezing problems. The weird thing is on Froyo I don't have any problems what so ever. No freezing... apps install like a breeze. It's hard to find a deodex solution for Froyo so I can't speak for that quite yet. I want to run custom roms and such, but I also need a phone that works. I can't stand being at work with a bricked phone all day. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

welcome to the forums.

Hmmm...man it sounds like you have tried pretty much everything which doesn't make sense. Hopefully someone will chime in on here with some suggestions.

Your not by chance trying to do a Froyo based restore once you get to GB are you? Like using Recovery?

sounds like you do have a real situation on your hands,

why do you want GB?
if froyo works great for you, and there are alot of roms on froyo, whenever you switch roms on gb you have to sbf back to froyo or restore a nandroid of stock ota pre rooted to flash other roms, GB is more of a pain than any other update has been.

there is supposidly an update on the way, if i were you i would do the ota see if it lags up at all and freezes, if it does take it to your local verizon store, inform them that you have factory data reset multiple times, and still nothing seems to correct this issue.

There's no need to sbf to go to another Rom .596 GB. All you have to do is format system if you want start from fresh (don't forget to mount system before applying Rom), and if you have issues with apps/data, then you can wipe data too. I would wipe cache while I was at it too.

basically wipe data and cache...

when i went from apex to liberty i wiped data anc cache, and i got hit with the boot logo freeze....

so are you sure about that?

granted i always admitt when im wrong or make a mistake when i do things, so maybe im doing something wrong, but i have never mounted system when i flash anything

Well I flashed Liberty.8 (Before I read about mounting the system). After many lockups I used the stock recovery to do a reset and now I'm running alright. The only problem I'm experiencing is that DROID2 bootstrapper is not letting me do data wipes.. which is weird. But at least I have a stable ROM now. I appreciate all of your input!

Yeah, if you format the system it's best you mount system again before applying a Rom because the Rom may not have it built into the script to re-mount system.
