Help questions regarding calender etc..

Just got the atrix. This is my first droid phone. So, is there no way to just use the calender to add events etc.. without syncing it first? The only calender I use on my computer is at work, but I really dont care to sync with outlook at work. My email is thru roadrunner. Does anyone know if roadrunner has a calender that will sync with this phone? I dont understand why I can just use the calender without syncing first. Is this motoblur or just a standard droid thing? Would I be better off setting up my roadrunner account thru outlook express, then syncing the phone with that. Or will it sync with outlook express? I mostly use my phone for a phone, calender, email and browser. I dont do social networking. I know I still have much to learn, because im finding this phone a little confusing right now. Im not sure if its motoblur or just the droid platform. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ok. So I want to use a simple calender. I created a gmail account. I now go to calender icon, pick the gmail account, and get a screen that wants me to sync everyhing. Well, there is nothing to sync, but I checked sync on everything, got out, went back in, and the same screen is just sitting there. It will not go farther. All I want to do is enter a event in a calender... Please tell me what im doing wrong.

I just found out that this phone is buggy. When I hit the calender icon, it would not take me into the calender. I hit the google search block, and saw that my last apps used was calender. I selected the calender from here, and poof, it worked. Now, I go into calender using the icon and it works. I know I have much to learn, but I hope I didnt get a buggy phone. Oh well. I still hope someone can point me in the best direction to pick up the droid platform and motoblur as quick as I can.

There's one more bug for calendar.. I can't set event reminder to last day of month..
I tried to create event on 31st March & recurring every month - but option is to set 31st of every month (not last day of month)..
When I selected 31st every month then it creates event only for months having 31 days..

well, I am happy with the alarm on the phone. I always used the calender as the alarm on my last phone, so I didnt think about it. The alarm function is great. It gets has the increasing volume, for the times you are dead asleep. Its also got the snooze function. Im still not happy with the calender and the alert functions. I will have to download a different calender app.
