Questions thinking about switching

benchmarks are artificial crap. i can take a indulge make a tmpfs and outscore every single person ever in quadrant. now that is quadrant and i know no one is cheating, but it just further proves the point that they are a good basis for comparing upgrades (as in sgs3 vs sgs4, evo 3d vs evo lte vs htc one) but is fairly terrible at comparing different phones to each other.

both phones have the qualcomm 1.5ghz snapdragon s4 chipset, there is no motion edging it out specwise the premia beats the motion black and blue in terms of specs. the premia has an unlocked bootloader (just found out a few days ago, posting OUDHS recovery for em tonight.) which means they could actually have a fully functional cm rom. they can have custom kernels, they can do overclocking (lets compare benchmarks then).

in my opinion both of them are cheap plasticy crapboxes, but for the price both are amazing devices. i think for the average consumer they are gunna go with the premia. bigger screen, bigger resolution, same speed...

As far as beating it black and blue in specs that's an exaggeration lmao. If either of theses phones is better than the other it's by a very little bit. And as far as the average consumer goes yeah a lot will pick a bigger screen but also a lot will go for the more recognizable manufacturer. As I said to each his own and I wish the Premia peeps luck with CM and I wasn't downgrading their phones I just think the Motion is better. I know 2 people with Premias and played around with one for a half hour or so helping him set up his phone and the battery life just wasn't that great maybe thats due to the bigger screen idk but I think with an extended battery the Premia is a steal for the money.

well the premia also has a smaller battery, so that isnt helping with that regard. hopefully someone on the premia forums sends huawei a request to post source code so that undervolting can begin and save em some power.

i guess its just me but the bigger screen, bigger resolution and a front facing camera is more than enough to consider it an improvement over the motion.

So, does anyone have any thoughts on the ZTE Avid at the same price point? I am considering that phone and the Spirit, and just wondering if it is worth spending the extra $150.

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on what kind of speeds I can expect on the 4G network in the metro Detroit area? I currently have the HTC Evo V with Virgin's 3G network, but have to switch because I can not get a good signal at my new house.

The Motion has a front facing camera the only feature from the Premia I'd want is the led notification which is handy but not a dealbreaker for me.

metro's lte is similar in speeds to sprint/virgin/boost wimax 4g. the avid is alright. as nice as the spirit is i cant truly suggest anyone drop that much into cdma phones as time gets closer to the cutoff. sure youll get a few years out of it but for the extra 150 is it worth it? save it for a nice gsm device when they come out with it. if you really wanted to part with your money that much there are plenty of charities :P

interesting, the spec sheet i saw had no ffc for teh motion.. but it also claimed the motion had bluetooth 4.0 in it.

The only piece of hardware missing up front on the Motion is an ambient light sensor. Too bad, I enjoy having auto-brightness :D

And stop arguing over Premia/Motion. Premia is a better phone. The Motion's super low-res, gritty and tiny display is a bigger hit than all of Premia's deficiencies combined. And now with unlocked bootloader and custom recovery (thanks OUDHS), the Motion definitely has no leg to stand on. And don't say CM10. So as long as your kernels remain locked up in the maximum security wing at LG's mobile dev headquarters, 2ndinit CM10 is basically running a theme. Oh, I can play HD games on the Premia. No prop edits :D

I own both phones. Motion is indeed a great device, it's just...that display is awful to look at :(

well i mean its a double edged sword, i contacted huawei about releasing kernel source and teh response they sent me was they have no idea who to contact. so even though motion cant use their source, they have it :P

That's a slap in the face..... Here's the source code, guys, lots of luck with dat boot loader tho :D

I really do hope the Motion can be unlocked some time, I would love to see a fully operational CM10 on it... I'm aching to root this thing LOL. But it has worked so well that I never felt the need to

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it but it's not a carved in stone fact. If, and I stress IF you don't care about a bigger screen the Motion Does have some advantages over the Premia. If you need a bigger screen then go with the Premia. It's all a matter of personal preference. If you prefer the Premia then good for you. I prefer the Motion. Hell i recommended the Premia to a guy I know who was getting pounded with ATT international call overages who wanted to switch to Metro but needed a bigger phone due to poor eyesight and I set his phone up so he could have his annoying baby crying autotune remix ringtone and what not. I have been willing to concede that the phones are very close spec-wise and that both phones have their pros and cons but the Premia side of the argument is... well can't tell if their trolling or...
At the end of the day I'm tired of arguing which $30 phone is better. I plan on getting either the Nexus 5 or Moto X whichever has the bang for the buck.

i would strongly suggest the nexus 5, lg got passed up so its actually going to be good. the moto fone x meanwhile is a mid range moto device... truly nothing special about it :(

yeah, sadly those are the rumors about the Moto X but I'm hoping they're wrong lol. This was supposed to be the Unicorn of unlocked phones.

With google in charge at moto I really had hoped so as well but it seems they are sitting back and letting moto do there thing.

Though past moto phones were locked tight were they not?

wonder if new ones will be.

The man at the top has hinted that it'll be a mid range phone, mentioning that it'll be a smaller screen size and priced to sell.

I'm sure it'll have some innovations, bit I don't see it competing directly with the other top end phones.

All the hype will likely come back to hurt it

Yeah and the original rumors were that they would be unlocked for most carriers and unlockable on Vzw for a fee

Yeah I was referring to the bootloader too. These are the rumors I was referring to.

Motorola X Phone will be announced at Google I/O in May.
Current target for release is July 8 (definitely subject to change).
All carriers will sell the X Phone.
Verizon will sell it for $299 on contract.
All versions will also be sold through the Google Play store at similar off-contract price to Nexus line.
If you want to unlock the bootloader through Verizon, they will charge a $15/month fee.
If you buy it through Google Play, it comes unlocked with no fee.
Not a “Nexus” but will come running stock Android and with some bloatware.
Bloatware can apparently be removed once unlocked.

$299 ON contract or OFF?

I can't imagine it'd be that high on contract.

It was supposed to be that price on contract for Verizon and the same price off contract for everyone else. The phone was rumored to be so good that many people, including myself, wanted to believe in it so much we didn't question the numbers. When they said you could get it in made out of wood is where I started to think sumptin wasn't right lol. Oh well If they do make this phone on par with the rumors I'd be the first in line to get it. Make mine Mahogany lml:D

Hi I had another question just didn't want to start another thread.
If I get added to a family plan , and I am the 3rd line would it be 55 or 50.
Is it 5 off on the plan or 5 per line?.
thanks,
Tony
