questions

I was curious what verisons people are runing on their s3 phones. I have 4.4.2 running on my phone and I have to say I am very upset with this update and dreafully hate it. I was curious how other people felt about this update on their phone. Also Is there anyway in this update to just run on 3g only? I posted earlier about my phone draining power fast I believe my phone is trying to find this so called 4g signal in my area. I see no options to run on 3g only. Thanks

It works fine on my Canadian S3 with 2 GB of ram. And idk about your signal thing...

Go into settings, more networks, then mobile networks, then select 3G.

I love update. While battery life isn't as good as 4.1.2 was it's way better than 4.3. I was skeptical about updating at first and kept playing with buggy AOSP Roms to get my kit kat fix and regret waiting as long as I did. Smooth as butter.

My S3 is running 4.4.2 and I'm happy with it. It's rooted so I could null out a few really obnoxious (aka Samsung) things but other than that I still kept its stock ROM.

As far as Settings, More networks, Mobile networks, Network mode, then selecting either 3G or 4G/3G, depending on your carrier the 'Preferred network mode: ' might instead show as 'CDMA' or 'LTE/CDMA' (the former is for 3G and the latter is for 4G).

Running 4.4.4 (custom rom) on my international s3 (1gb, never got official kitkat update) and must say it's running beautifully :)
Not so sure how it's going to handle lollipop though. I briefly tested an alpha build and it was pretty laggy :(

I'm running 4.4.2 on the Canadian model as well, I747M. I just got an update about a week ago. This particular update seemed to improved the performance of my phone at least so far. What I have noticed is that in the past, when playing music over BT audio in my car, the music would occasionally cut out for a split second. It is usually OK for the first day after a reboot, but then happens progressively more often. After a few days, I haven't noticed this happening.

I'm going to have to give it a couple of weeks after a reboot before I'm convinced that the issue has gone away with this update. I had to reboot my phone yesterday as Google Play crashed after updating several apps. I generally don't turn off my phone or reboot it. If I need to turn it off, I put it into airplane mode instead.

The other issue I've had with previous updates is that I would have issues with getting a GPS lock from time to time. A reboot usually solves this issue as well. Again, it's fine after a reboot and generally starts happening after a couple of weeks. Again, I'll have to wait a month at least before I really feel confident that this issue has gone away.

You should reboot any device; phone, computer, printer, whatever; at least once a week. To clear out caches and running processes that aren't needed. It makes them run so much better.

Does it look like the stock rom? :P

I was running Lollipop before I sold the phone, ran pretty damn well too, before that I was on SlimKat 4.4.4 and that was a real treat to use.

Maybe my expectations are high. I find having to reboot every week rather annoying. I had the opportunity (or rather a necessity) to use an iPhone 5S instead of my GS3 a couple of months ago for a few weeks. I didn't reboot that phone at all over the course of those weeks and have not experience any performance issues as a result of not rebooting. I didn't have to reboot my GS3 every week when I first got it. It wasn't unit maybe several months before I noticed issues that required me to reboot my phone.

Well, I had to reboot my GS3 this weekend again. Last week, I updated a bunch of apps and caused Google Play to crash. Had to reboot it then. After rebooting, I was experiencing my music stuttering and my GPS having intermittent issues locking. I shut it down and did a battery pull before restarting. I guess the latest update didn't make it any less necessary to reboot my phone.

One thing I did notice over the past few weeks is that my battery seems to last longer than before. Not sure if it is due to the update or if it is due to the new car charger I got. I always use Waze when I drive. Even plugged into the car charger, the battery drains. I tend to drive a lot and use my phone a lot on weekends. At the end of the day on a weekend, my battery is practically gone or I would have to top up my battery during the day (when not driving). I got a new car charger with a higher power output rating about the time I updated my phone. Not sure which is responsible for the better battery life, but I'm happy. My battery still drains when using Waze with the car charger plugged in, but there is certainly a noticeable difference in battery life compared to a month ago.

The more apps you install, the more buggy your phone will get. They all have different sorts of background processes and things that begin to take a toll. A factory reset usually quells this for awhile.
And even iPhone should be rebooted once a week. Computers, printers, fax machines, phones, any broadband or wireless (even some wired ones) will benefit from a weekly reboot. Is it absolutely necessary? No. Will it keep devices less likely to misbehave? Yes. Years of experience and hours of reading and and tinkering absolutely confirm this. But do as you like, I only offer advice.
Once every 3 to 6 months I backup my important files and factory reset my phone and tablets. People always ask why mine always run so much better than theirs. That's my answer. Then they want to say " no way I'm doing that" or " that's not really necessary " or " I've never had to BEFORE". Well I do and it serves me well. Keeps my systems clean and in tip top shape. And my devices last for years. I get new ones and hand down the old ones. All my devices perform like new right up until I replace them.
Just my 2 cents. Do as you like. I'm sure I'll get comments like "I never do that" and similar. Just offering my experience, nothing more.
