Root Quick Contact Widget

Okay, so I went back to Froyo and really miss the contact shortcut that would drop a little menu down with the option to call them, sms, or email. I think it is in the QuickContactWidget.apk. Can anyone verify this for me?

If so, is there anywhere I can get the apk? It should work for froyo, right? I have a few zips of different GB that I could possibly extract the apk from, but when I try this I get a parsing error. Probably some technical reason that is a bit beyond me.

Anyway, I just want to have the contact shortcut with the dropdown menu again. Any help? :D

I notice there's an odex file on that list as well. I am deodexed. Do I need the odex?

Just tried it without the odex, got application not installed.

You just need the .apk. You can not install it like a regular .apk, you need to move it into the system/app folder and then change the permissions to:

-------R W E
Owner X X
Group X
Others X

Then just restart your phone.

Thanks for such quick replies airmaxx. Now, however, it's all installed, but the option for quick contact doesn't pop up when adding widgets, or shortcuts.

It looks like the plain 1x1 contact shortcut:

But when you press the contact, it pulls up a little ribbon looking thing with options on how to contact the person you are trying to contact, like so:

Tried it. When i press the contact icon that pops up, it opens the menu for the contact instead of the dropdown.

Man, call me picky, but I really like the look and fell of the "stock" one. I did change blurcontacts around the other day, but I don't think I could have done anything that had that sort of effect. Reinstalling it now though just to see.

Well now, things just went south. I tried to reinstall blurcontacts and now have no contacts...

Got it from that site you listed above airmaxx, tried installing it like you said. Got nothing. What am I doing wrong today?

Try re-syncing your contacts by going into accounts.

You do have a Nandroid backup, right? :D

Lol. Most definitely have a backup. I am flashing it now. Actually, I'm flashing for a third time because I flashed an old rom to take a look at the apps to try and see what I'm missing. Sadly, I do not rename apks, I just delete them.

I did notice, however, that in an old rom I used, it did not have blurcontacts.apk, just contacts.apk, and it had exactly the shortcut thing I'm looking for. So, could blurcontacts remove what I am looking for? Anybody?

I don't think it installed right. It doesn't even show the proper icon for it in system/app. It just shows the little android. Anyway I can pull apks from a zip I have on the sdcard and install them?

You should be able to, since you have a backup go for it.
