Root Quick question about ROMs and Android version.

Brunte

Newbie
I currently run android 2.3.3 on my rooted Desire and i wanna run another ROM.

Does it matter what version of android i run? Or must i use ROMs that run android 2.3.3?

Nope - when you flash a custom rom in recovery you are replacing the complete system, so you'll have whatever version of android that is used in the rom. They will typically all be later versions - anything from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6/7. Make sure you read the instructions for the rom you select carefully in case it needs an ext partition, and sometimes a different hboot which you need to be S-OFF to change.

If you are not s-off suggest you avoid until your comfortable with whole flashing process.

Before you do anything, do a complete nandroid back up in recovery.

I have done a nandroid backup and a titanium backup.
Thanks for the info.

So if i wanna go back i use my nandroid backup in recovery?

You need custom recovery which you either need to be rooted for (2.2.1 or lower for GSM) or S-off (any version).

You cannot have custom recovery if one of these criteria is not met.
