Root quick question about selling phone

I plan on using my ally until I reach upgrade time in about a year but keep seeing threads about "reverting to stock to sell phone". Would the phone need to be stock in order to switch it to a different account? Or can this be done while leaving velocity on the phone? I would hate to sell the phone and see the next owner experience how terrifyingly slow a stock ally is. I wouldn't want to put anyone through that lol. Thanks in advance.

They can activate it either way. just some people may not want a rooted phone. I would just ask the buyer cuz going stock it very simple. But as far as activation theres no difference
