Quick question - text message limit

Where is the text message limit setting? The setting that auto-deletes old messages and/or after a certain number?

I am using the stock messaging app right now (deciding between it and handcent) and it is getting quite laggy.

I don't know of one that does it automatically.

I'm using a program called "delete old messages" the free version only allows you to deleted by age (settable with wrench to left of delete button)
