Root Quick question

Im sure its been asked a million times, but im 100% not savy with the talk when it comes to phones. My phone was rooted after i got it, which was right at the release. I have not installed any roms, the only thing i rooted it for was so i could use wireless tether, only way i can get my internet. Anyways long story short i was wondering if i can update to froyo now, i have been putting it off in fear of it not letting my wireless tether work. I do not want to have to root this thing again.

Thanks everyone

Cody

Unfortunately if you update you will lose root. The good thing is rooting has gotten to be easier and safer then a while back. Of course the call is yours on what you decide to do. If you decide to do it there are plenty of resources and people willing to help you out:-)

i really appreciate the reply, i would be interested in re rooting the phone after the ota update, but i want a fail safe method that is easy to do. The phone is my only access to internet on a computer. I would like froyo but ive been very happy with just having wireless teather and whatever firmware is stock.

Im on my phone so i cant link this but look for a wip thread, everything you need should be covered in there.

Download Android 2.2.1 Update Zip file...
After you have done that (step #11)

Take the update.zip file and place it on the root of your SD card. Hold the Volume down + camera + power button until your phone boots into [recovey mode].

Select the option to apply update.zip (volume up and down for navigation, home key to select)

let your phone work it's magic

This will give you eb13

Then download this one click root program/file

When it completes it's download, unzip the file to a location in which you can easily access it.

Find the (windows batch) file named "run". double click this file and select to run it

Go into your phone settings, Applications, and enable USB debugging.

Plug your phone into your computer via USB cable, and as the prompt says, press any key [on your computer] to start.

This will root your device for you, and will restart your phone and viola, EB13 (froyo) rooted

Hope this helps!
p.s. use at your own risk, it worked for me and for various others as well =)

Edit: If you would like to flash a custom rom, I would highly recommend the Syndicate's Frozen rom, however this requires you to root using a different one click root tool, so if you would like to flash this custom rom, here is the root files for that [done the same way I showed above] and you should put the syndicate .zip file on your SD card BEFORE running this root because you must then flash the rom while in CWM3, it is very simple and the Syndicate Rom is here and you flash it in Clockwork mod by clicking "install zip from card"...."select zip" and then the syndicate frozen 1.0.2 file. IF you have any questions or problems, please feel free to message me and I will try to help you however I can
