Root Quick question...

Just got my insurance replacement. Can i root and flash my most recent backup from from sd card (deodexed GB, imoseyon zip) or would I be better off flashing DeoGB from scratch???
 
I am not 100% sure, but I am about 95% sure that the best thing to do would be to root, flash the rooted GB and then flash your back up GB from the card. I don't think you would be able to go from 2.2 to 2.3 just through a back up.
 
I'd suggest creating a new back up first just in case it boot loops you. I think I remember seeing someone having problems with the md5 checksums
 
Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I'm gonna root, then flash the deodexed GB, then flash imoseyon zip. I won't pretend that I'm not excited to devote the next couple hours to setting this thing back up.
 
This is what I recommend and I have been told it works:

Root.
Flash GBRooted.
Flash GBDeodexed.
Go into Clockwork, go to Backup and Restore
Hit advanced
Click the back up you want
Then hit restore data.

You get a fresh system install AND all your data back. And, since it was from the same system, you shouldn't get force closes or anything.

Like I said, I have been told this works, but I haven't personally used it so proceed with caution.
 
Worked out well, thanks for all the help! I had gotten my previous X on launch date, and I was anxious to see if I could go any higher than 1.2 ghz on the replacement, and sure enough, I calibrated it in Quickclock and it topped out at over 1.4 ghz. Not sure if that'll lead to any day-to-days gains, but it's nice to know.
