Root Quick question...

Hi all,

Joined today and this is my 1st post.

Have done a ton of reading on this forum over the past week or so - brilliant stuff!

Using various guides I have S-off and rooted my 2.2 Desire (using Revolutionary). So far so good :)

I have horrendous internal memory issues (can't manage SMS/MMS without uninstalling app updates and have pretty much exhausted this as an option) and am now looking to flash the Alpharev CM7 HBoot partition table before flashing CM7.

I know this is a potentially risky process but is there any obvious reason that I can't/shouldn't do this that I might have missed?

Not really, no. :)

I would recommend doing it the other way:

Make a nandroid just in case.
Flash CM7 and set it up as you like (flash google play and the like), make sure it flashed properly.

Make a new nandroid

Fastbootflash your new hboot

Restore (the correct) nandroid

Enjoy! Edit: and welcome to the friendliest forum around!

Hail Elgoog!

Have you considered using a 1gb ext4 partition on your SD card and flashing a script/rom which then tricks your phone in thinking it's more internal memory? Not to put you off changing hboot, but as you said it holds a risk, this alternative delivers what you need as well as being relatively safe!
If you want to go via the hboot route - Flumme has hit the nail on the head.

Have fun!

Thanks Flumme :)

And to you Jon_LTD! I assume you're talking about a2sd+ and partitioning using GParted. If so, this is something that I had started looking at. The only thing I'm not sure about on the forum guide is where it says "Make sure you have moved all Sd Apps back to internal memory first". This isn't going to be possible as I have so little memory left?!

As long as you check the md5 code of the hboot (to make sure the download is good) hboot flashing is pretty safe. But do make sure you understand the procedure first, especially take a nandroid before flashing hboot.

I would recommend changing ROM first, then changing hboot. One step at a time.

Thanks Flumme :)

Yup! I was on about a2sd+ via gparted! :p

You don't have to move all of your apps to your internal memory to complete this, it is just a way of being able to back them up as the sd card will be formatted as you create the partition. Another way around it would be copy and paste all the data from your card temporarily on to your computer, do the partition and paste the folders back on before turning your phone back on. Simple :)
