Root Quick questions about HBOOT...

Android Enthusiast
So ive decided today to muck around with HBOOT's from the alpharev site.

First i want to know:

1st: Is it safe to use the "android flasher" application to do it or is it better to do it manually?

2nd: If i flash the oxygen HBOOT can i generally flash back to the stock HBOOT without any hassles?

3rd: Whats better Oxygen hboot or CM7 if there is such a thing as better, looking at them i would guess CM7 would be a little more user friendly as it would have more space for various ROM's without having to flash back?

4th: From previous conversations that iv lost track off, im assuming if i only have 5M Cache would be a bad thing for download apps etc?

Thanks !!

Cm7 would fit most aosp Roms. Oxygen only fits oxygen and redux

Android flasher is brilliant. I flash all my recoveries that way.

Ppersonally I use custom mtd but its a bit more involved.

Redux uses data partition for cache if cache is too small. Mine is 3MB and can confirm I can download apps that are 30MB. Only thing you can't do is flash a radio via recovery. Can flash using fastboot or the flasher though.

If you want other Roms to do this for cache, add the system/etc/init.d/06mountdl script to it from redux

It depends. I cut system down to 75 on redux. Cache 3. Gives me 360 for apps and can use traditional move to sd methods. Dalvik on nand. No ext. Runs nice

102 apps and 137MB space free. Happy with that

I don't want to risk low system or cache sizes just yet. Alpharev Bravo Sense table seems to me a little yet useful step. I now can fit all kinds of ROMs on that table. :)

I used Fastboot Commander to flash the Hboot, but I might try also Android Flasher next. It seems very simple and straightforward.

Does this happen automatically?

@Suroot,
On Redux, don't you miss the CM settings from GV? :)

Nope not really. There's an app for vm heap size but its set to 32 anyway.

Could do with being able to disable surface dithering (unless it already is)

I don't use anything in settings apart from that.

Oh tell a lie, disable lock screen sliders.

Yes script is automatic

In the past few days, I've installed bunch of new apps to try them out. I'm still happy to see no internal memory shortage, even with 171 apps installed. :)

Just an update... I flashed CM7 HBOOT with android flasher, probably couldnt have gone any smoother or easier. open flasher, choose the .img file and flash... all done

One thing has happened since i installed CM7 HBOOT... I cant copy apps directly into the system\app folder anymore, anyone know why? It either looks as though they have copied but didnt or QtADB stops working.

EDIT: I think it was because they are now suposed to go in the data\app folder ?
