Root Quick settings and Z4Root dont work on prevail.

I first tried quick settings. Wifi hotspot is listed under hidden settings but as soon as you try to turn it on, the phone insteads disables the wireless. Z4Root also did not work. Anyone successful in rooting the prevail?

Were you able to tether via USB and connect a PC to the internet through the phone? If you connect the phone and PC together with the usb cable, the option should go from being greyed out to something you can select (unless they disabled the option too).

Something like: Settings, wireless & networks, tethering & portable hotspot, USB tethering (next to portable wifi hotspot).

I see that Samsung has the source code for the Prevail up, so hopefully a root isn't far off.

Do you know which app will work to use the prevail? as a hotspot because I tried hotspotwidget and didn't work.I used to have the lg optimus V but with the prevail it faild to work

First things first, i need someone to set up teh sdk and get adb going, from there you can tell me what partitions are mounted where.. you could do the long but easy process instead..

download terminal emulator, open it up and type

mount > /sdcard/mounts.txt

then get that file off the sd card and pastebin or copy and paste it for me :D

do that and we can begin our long strech

ACS is the most known group dominating cooked ROMs nowadays.

They have created cooked ROMs for many other android phones including the wildly popular Samsung Epic.

I am very hopeful that if someone can do this, it is ACS.

We are all patiently waiting. :D:D

ok i have a test rooting bat script. cant guarantee that it will work but i need someone to beta test :D

I've tried the 1.2 apk. I've searched around and not found much about running it any other way than the apk. Any advice?

Also.. all I have in /data/local/tmp is:

psneuter
rageagaubsttgecage-arm5.bin
root.sh

Update:

I've located the files needed to run Gingerbreak manually.
It did not produce a logfile but here is the adb output.

Samsung Galaxy Prevail - GingerBreak - Manual Output

Would anyone know how to get the usb drivers setup?

Sign up for a developer account at innovator.samsungmobile.com

Then go to the Android section, Tools & SDK, and download the "Samsung Andorid USB Driver for Windows" (assuming you're on windows, of course).

VISONary as well died on me I literally tried all the roots and all come with errors. All the phone does is vibrate a bit every time its going thru the root process

I am also willing to test. I just went to a prevail from a touch pro 2 I had on Boost running android. I did learn allot about roms and my phones inner workings in general.
