R-Box problem

I am a complete newbie as far as messing with these things is concerned. I can take a radio transceiver to bits and repair it but know nothing more than how to switch these things on and off.
I have posted this elsewhere but maybe it is in the wrong place. my problem is I have a Rock Chip RK2918 based R-Box and I would like to root it. I have had it for some time but have only just plucked up the courage to deal with it.

However, I have done a search and cannot find any details on where to get the carrect rom, software etc. Could anyone please give me some advice and point me to a download for the essential software

Is this one of those Chinese Android HDMI dongles or STBs? I can't find any information about an "R-Box" either, even on Baidu. Manufacturer is most likely unknown. Which means there's almost no chance of obtaining a ROM for it. Where did you purchase it? - Ebay and shipped from Shenzhen or Hong Kong, China?

You might have luck rooting it using one of the universal rooting tools like SuperOneClick.

Hi and thank you for your reply, I bought the box from 7dayshop. It is the one with 4 USB ports (they do nothing) here is a link to a similar box. I cannot find anywhere to download the update file however.
I am new to this sort of stuff and do not yet understand APKs, need to find a tutorial!
