R2D2 Droid

don't lie.... you played with that R2D2 balloon til it popped....lol

Haha.. Actually my dog did. ;)

But I did eat one of the cookies.
They were out of this world
They were Degobah dielish
They had the force

Jeez.. I better not quit my day job.

So after messing with the R2D2 phone last night I have found some great things that I am sure are just the normal great things that the DROID2 has built on it, and are not just exclusive to the R2D2 model. Coming over from the orig DROID (rooted, overclocked), this phone is just so much more solid, quick, and there is absolutely no lag. Some great features I noticed right off the bat:

- When playing music, and the phone locks, the controls for the music player are on the unlock screen. It's nice not having to unlock the phone to access those controls.

- I love the screen layout when you are on a call, and you are docked on the car mount.

- The stock messaging app is leaps and bounds better than on the orig DROID

- I like the my location feature now in maps, that it is sperate, and that it displays your MPH.

That's all I can think of now.. Curious to see how battery holds up.

hahahahaha.. dyuwdjutiwtcsmdgtfiebrjkfify ← you made me choke on my hot chocolate!

nothing boosts sales more than making sheep think there are limited numbers.....

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

"Congrats, you got one of the last 5"

I got the exact opposite. The said I was only the third person to buy one, and they unloaded all of their promo shwank on me.

all of the features you said it has does sound like typical D2 upgrades over the D1.... No question you did get a better phone.... But there are $49 D2 deals going on right now... economically, I just don't see the point in paying full price for a repackaged D2. Star Wars is cool and all, I just don't see how this is going to be a huge success for them

I've "lost" the MPH display in maps...can you remind me of how to display it?

No doubt. I am sure there is nothing special with the R2D2 one that I got. Other than the hologram projector, of course (that keeps repeating this msg from someone named Princess Leah).

But when it comes to economics, and gadgets, I am a complete idiot. Especially when it is branded with Star Wars. They hooked me.

If you launch "my location" from the car dock app, it comes up.

Thanks! I was hunting for this a while back and couldn't remember where I saw it, and no one could tell me where it was found.

I'd like to be able to launch this from Google Maps, when not in car dock mode, and also put a shortcut to it on my car dock replacement...been unable to find a direct way to access this. Anyone have any ideas?

I got a Droid X on release day and I love it however if I knew about this phone I would have saved my upgrade for it, yeah I am a star wars geek, so what

my battery life been really bad on this.... any tips on how to increase the life?

I feel like it may be hidden applications running or something.
When you close an app, is there a specific way to close it completely?

I have not noticed a huge battery drain yet, but have only had the phone for 2 days. Juice Defender was something that I had installed on my DROID, and it did a great job. Not sure it works well with the DROID2 or not, but maybe something to look into. I am holding off installing it until I notice that the battery is not performing well for me.

THanks! I have just made these changes... hopefully I will notice a difference.

He also mentions that task killers don't really work as well and just end up taking up more battery power, is this true?
should i uninstall?

Yes. Uninstall immediately. Task killers use battery and basically do you no good. Everyone will agree with this; they are just not needed. The biggest things you can do for battery boost are limiting a lot of widgets(especially those who update themselves a lot), bring your brightness down (I use 10%, just change for when you need brighter), turn off background data unless your on Market, and I'd download a alternate home replacement. Launcher Pro is a very popular choice and I personally use Launcher Pro Plus. Besides this stuff you can root your phone and freeze/rename apps so they will NEVER run and get SetCPU and underclock your CPU with setup profiles.

JuiceDefender is a good app for battery saving as loomer mentions. I'd say the paid version is the only version worth getting though.

Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them

It's pretty straightforward...

Use the drums in your avatar for your rimshot, since no one else will do it for you.
:)

I swear i made this icon before hearing of this phone...

will be included in my next update... Get "Tha Icon" apps on the market, right now!

I am not a star wars fan, but you should make this icon the app launch button. When you click it, the top of the head should pop up and a blue glow from the mouth.
Just gimme 15% of paypals for that gem :)

i just ordered mine today. got the shipping waived(overnight) and instant rebate by talking to the CS rep. had a complaint so he applied it for me. so i guess i will be back to you guys in a couple days or so to give my 2 cents on the r2-d2 droid.

Can you R2D2'ers check your Settings>About>System Version and report what you see?

Someone claimed to see an R2D2 at a VZW store w/2.4.5 on it (as opposed to 2.4.0) - wondering if anyone really has 2.5.5 on their R2D2.
