Root Radio Question?

I would like to flash back to a sense rom, but pretty much all of them involve flashing a radio of some sort. I don't want to flash experimental radios on this phone, and the thread about radios on xda is semi-confusing. 1.16.00.0223r is the baseband i am currently using. Is this up to date or has there been an OTA that i missed with an upgraded radio? Anyone that could explain the different combinations that are posted on xda in more depth i would greatly appreciate it.

there are basically 4 sets of radios.

1)the ones that came with the shipping firmware (1.12.605.6)

2)the ones that came with mr1 (1.13.605.7)

3) the first leak gingerbread radios

4) the leak mr2 radios, wich will also be used by the gingerbread OTA(and therefore compatible with current GB leak based roms)

you are currently on #1,wich are the recceomended radios to use with cm7. all slayhers work to this point has been based on that radio.

#2,being newer,is prolly going to work a little better with the other froyo based roms

#3 are thot to have contributed to the emmc failures, and tho no further bricks have become, its not 100% sure that they are safe.

#4 is the next OTA and presumably fairly safe, tho we wont really know for 100% sure till it starts hitting the airwaves and we see if stock phones are going to start giving up the ghost

if you want to use a sense rom, your "safest" option would be any of the froyo roms that are based on mr1,as you can use your current radio,or update to the second set.

2nd safest thing is the#4 radio, with roms based on mr2(plain janev3,perfect storm, the third one i forget, and possibly others by now). again, this radio is thot to be perfectly fine, and since we havent seen any updates in the threads,or any new warning threads,im pretty inclined to believe it.

3rd safest thing would be to use #4 radios, with one of the GB sense roms(bamf,gingeritis,liquid,th3ory,etc). radio is prolly fine,GB is prolly fine, but again,no one can be 100% sure that the first set of bricks were from the radio, and not something with the leak that all the GB roms are based on.

i persoanlly feel the GB roms and #4 radio are safe, and i wouldnt hesitate to run one if thats what i wanted to do. im lovin cm7 at the moment, and dont have much desires to change right now, however.

keep in mind, that this is just my personal opinion... understand that there is a small risk until there is further info, however small it may be.

hope that helps :)

Thanks, i wasn't sure if the 1.13.605.7 was an ota update or what. I did end up flashing das BAMF 1.7 remixed, after flashing the recomended radio for it. So far i am liking it a lot. I am not messing with MR2 or the gingerbread radios until the next official OTA is released, then maybe i will look into that radio if it is needed for anything. Thanks again, happy flashing.

Does anyone else think this should be a sticky?

not really... if you get too many stickys then people wont read them  lol...

also... the radio thing is only really going to be an issue for another couple of weeks until mr2 is pushed to phones. up untill that point,we can just link back to this post for info

i will put a temporary link in the "how to and terminology" thread so we can find it easily.

:)

Nice radio synopsis Scotty. I have flashed radios back and forth based on the updates-then the warnings. I do get a little nervous changing the firmware so often though.

Also, I thought it was strange that after Adrynalyne's experience, there was no more mention of issues especially since so many people said they were staying on GB regardless. I figured there would be at least a few more than 3 bricks.

I am sitting tight on your 2nd safest item. I too think the GB/MR2 combination is safe though and maybe I will bounce back in a few days. I had no problems and it was nice and smooth. Maybe I will wait to see what happens. Like you, I wouldn't "recommend" it to anyone else just in case...everyone needs to drink their own poison. ;)
