Root Radio Version question

Hi Everyone,

I am a bit of a noob here and I am a bit confused regarding radio updates. I know how to check my phone's radio version.
My Phone is at 2.15.00.11.19 (from Oct of 2010)
The new update is 2.15.00.08.08


Can anyone explain to me why the version number seemingly went down instead of up?

not sure on how they determine the radio numbers.

I always assumed it had something to do with the date released. I am almost positive the 11.19 radios were released when Swype came out last year before I was rooted. I think it was late October/early November, so maybe they planned on a November release or something?
