Raise Hand If Evo Battery Is Working Fine

Isn't the battery lithium ion? How do you break in a lithium ion battery? They just don't work that way. What does HTC suggest?

You're right maybe I used the wrong word, but anyway this does work.

It's in the sticky-----
Also need to calibrate the battery...
With the phone in the on position.

Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.)

Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off.

After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone.

now.... with the phone fully powered off...

1. Unplug the charger.

2. Wait until led goes off.

3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1.

4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle. Typically only about 1 minute. though.

OK, that procedure. I remember that one now. I tried that one through one process and my battery went green in less that 30 seconds so I figure I am good.

I have to wonder if people think their battery is bad but there is really some app running that is draining their phone and they just are not aware of it. I had one absolutely horrific day of battery life with mine and it was due to G-Strings guitar tuner running... and I didn't realize it didn't close when I backed out of it. I have t6o force close that when ever I want to be done with it, otherwise it is like watching the gas gauge in my old Corvette....

Cool car, I love old corvettes... i love all vett's

Anyway... im happy with the EVO's battery life... i took the phone off the charger at 8am and since then I have been playing with the phone near constantly (just got the EVO 3 days ago, so i cant put it down yet)... streaming pandora for about 2hrs now via 3G... sent over 100 texts and two 20 min phone calls.. its now noon and im at 60+ percent.

20-40 hours for light moderate to heavy moderate use.

When I say heavy moderate...I am accurate!
I am using Toast full Nand root with Fresh .3 rom....
Here is my battery trick....

If you are experiencing poor battery performance, you might be experiencing the Motorola cell tower problem. HTC has confirmed that the EVO is not playing well with cell towers that have motorola transmitters. It is causing the phone to use more energy to dial in the tower.

To be sure...
1. Set all apps and widgets to manual update or update once a day.
2. Get rid of the people app or widget from any home screen.
3. Go into Gtalk and uncheck auto sign in. Then sign out when you exit the program.
4. charge the phone until the green light comes on. Don't use a battery meter. The second the green light comes on, go into recovery and wipe the battery stats. Reboot the phone and run it until the battery dies and will not longer power the phone. This does nothing for the battery but does recalibrate the internal battery meter. Some of the posts about plugging in and out at green and orange light....waste of time.
5. For maximum life...turn off: background data, WiFi, BT, and Mobile networks when not using. keep screen at 1/2 brightness.

If I do the above and manually update mail, weather, social apps, etc... and only turn radios on when I need them, I can get 40 hrs. out of my EVO and this is under moderate to high moderate use.

One other thing....plug your phone in for 10 minutes. Then unplug it and go into immediate stand by for like 30 minutes. Go to settings>about phone>battery>battery use>cell standby. Time without signal should be very low....anything over 10-15% and I'd suspect that if you did everything in 1-5, you have a towers issue robbing your battery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=6934368

Mine started out with horrible battery life, but honestly it's pretty darned good now. And I'm a relatively heavy user. (Cell standby < 10%).

Granted, I mostly do "work" type things. Playing any games seems to cream the battery, but that's happened on any phone I've ever had.

Got mine on launch day and the battery sucked... would only get about 4-5 hours. Talked to my buddy that manages the store and he swapped it out for a new one. Now i can go a full day on a charge. I'm in love with my Evo again.

Why does the people widget/app matter?

Is this good or just normal battery life?

We need to have a more defined definition of what usage patterns mean. For instance, those claiming hours of battery life that seem too good to be true:

Example: Only meant as a reference.
If your Awake time is 30% or less of your Up time, you're not classified as anything other than a light user.

My current usage is 8 hours up time and 6 hours awake time. I'm pretty sure that would classify me as a heavy user. My charger is never more than a foot away either the USB cable in my pocket or a plugged into the adapter in the wall socket.
