Help Ram, and stuff

Im still kinda new to Android, I had Optimus S for around a month, loved it, then thought id switch to an Epic, its awesome exceot for 2 things.that are making me consider going back to optimus.

Apparently theres only around 300mb ram, which leaves me around 50mb with some things running, like dolphin and meebo, and if I open a couple more things like winamp or angry birds the other stuff closes automatically, didnt have that issue with optimus. Is there anything to do about that?

The other thing was the browser, can only have 4 windows open, the view to see windows I dont like either, I prefer the list view, and gifs dont work, did in optimus tho, I read that froyo has support for gifs tho, do I have a.wrong version.or something? 2.2.1 dk28 I think

I did the update.zip to froyo dk28, I read that if I did this it woyld be running 2 roms, is that true?

Ok, i just had to chime in on this one. The only 2 things that the 2 phones are similar in is the ram/rom both have 512mb each, and they run android. Outside of that the epic is hands down the better phone. Way faster processor. Way better screen.
The remaining ram factor has alot of variables in that, not only wht apps you have running but what background stuff is running as well. So the os will shut down the apps that are not being used to keep your other apps running as smooth as possible when demand calls for it. Unfortunately bloatware will eat up a bunch of available ram by keeping those stock apps in the ready mode even if you never use them. Which could explain why you see less available ram because one biggie i know the epic has that eats a ton of resources on stock is the media hub.
Also dk28 is the leaked 2.2, eb13 is the official release. Hope that helps you some:-)

Yea thanks for the help, so if im on dk28, would I be able to do the update.zip way from that to eb13, then start to root/rom? >.<
