Help Ram or rom issues?

I just posted the same message on the Galaxy S2X forum which I think is the same version as the T-mobile:

Hi there,

I am just about to buy a new Samsung Galaxy S2x but I am wondering if there are any memory limitations due to the phone or the Android 4.0 OS. I presently own an HTC Desire (Froyo 2.2) with 576 MB of RAM and although I rooted it, I am still having problems installing Apps because the amount of Ram available is too small. I don't have that many Apps installed, maybe 40 or 50 and most of them are quite small in size (less than 1Mb) and have been moved to the SD card, yet I'm still getting low memory messages all the time. If I want to install a new app, I have to remove another one. I know the S2x has 1Gb of Ram but I read a review on mobilesyrup that states that the S2x actually uses around 3/4 of that for system use. I am mainly changing phones because of this issue (other issues as well but not as important). Is this app installation limit a peeve of Froyo2.2 which has been adressed with 4.0? Has anyone installed a ton of apps on the S2x without any problems? I do not want to root the phone until the warranty has expired.

Thanks for your help.

First of all Welcome to the forums Imasphere :)

Second!!!!

Galaxy S2 is a solid phone - If you had opportunity to get the Galaxy S3 or better yet the Galaxy Nexus I would recommend those. Support for GS3 will be much longer and Galaxy Nexus you will always be on the newest firmware.

With that said if you still want to get the Galaxy S2 - Apps are not a problem what so ever the system actually uses 200 MB ram which is unavailable by default because of system install. If you have anti virus apps or anything else that likes to run on the background it will take up memory but other than that there should not be a problem. I have upwards from 50 apps which are installed not being used all at once and I have about 600MB still available of ram. The issue that I have read that is more common with older phones is that the space dedicated to apps is not that much and sometimes apps will not install because the space is not enough. With this phone you have a large internal sd card which pretty much resolves all of those issues and you also can slap in a 32gig external sd and plop the app there.

Android 4.0.4 which finally became the official version finally resolved the issues with the 4.0.3 ICS which were numerous. The software runs smooth and there is decent battery life even with moderate use of the phone. With little use I got 26 hours - my mom gets like 2 days while with moderate about 16-20 hours.

Please note that it is very likely that Samsung will decide not to put Jellybean on the GS2 - because it is not their flagship device any more (yes the official reason will be BS the real one is that they want you to buy the new one). If you are a little tech savvy or can read guides really well there are some roms that are making very good progress on jellybean and will eventually be pretty close to bug free!!!

Over all it is your decision but I know I love my GS2 and I will keep using it until the next big Nexus device from google after which I will just get on the google unlocked train and get my updates before everyone else.

That pretty much solves my dilemma.
I would get the S3 but the deal on the S2x is just too good.$150 up and $150 on my tab which decreases at a rate of $5 a month plus you get a Visa $100 gift card which you can use anywhere. All this without
a contract. The balance on the S3 would be $400.That's just too much for me, plus I don't really need the latest phone (although it's tempting).
Thanks for the help.
