i've done a benchmark test for my phone and the RAM averages between 380 - 400. does the android os use that much RAM?
 
Not sure how much the OS takes up, but there are a lot of apps which load themselves into RAM so they're ready to be used as soon as you need them.

380-400 is fine, unless you have a really badly coded app, that'll be ample for pretty much anything you need the phone to do.
 
Linux is built to consume RAM. It is not like windows where it needs to have a good amount free.

So the more RAM being used the better your phone will perform.
