Ran over my DInc.

Took the dog out for a bike ride last night and wanted to listen to a podcast while riding. I usually keep the phone in my pants' pocket while riding but put it in my fleece pocket instead. As I crossed the street I noticed I ran over something (it was dark) but blew it off. 40 minutes into the ride I realized I wasn't listening to anything and my worst fears came to mind.

Quickly I had to think of where I felt like I ran over what seemed to be a wood block at the time and hurried back to the spot under the street lamp where I recalled running over it. There she was. Front glass was broken but the AMOLED screen still turned on. I did some research and the replacement seemed like an easy task to do. I found the part on ebay for cheap (between $32-$45) and was glad she was still ticking however...

This morning I turned her on and the screen was purple and slowly deteriorating. Now the parts will cost me around eighty to ninety dollars just for the LCD screen and I'm sure it's not AMOLED plus $35 for the glass.

So should I still pay $5/ month and have to pay $50 for a new phone through insurance? I dunno but I learned to not put the phone in loose pockets.

I did the math on it. $5 a month for 24 months (2 yr contract) is $120. If you have to replace the phone without an upgrade option, you have to pay $500-600. Now, I've got the $500-600 laying around, but to me it's worth the money to transfer the risk to someone else.

Well called HTC and they're going to fix it. I just have to pay shipping. Time to unroot.

WAIT dont unroot. They don't care. Just if you have a pin code or something like that, remove it. Unlink all secure info (like the mint app) and log out of all accounts.

PCD does the actual repairs for all HTC CMDA phones and I had a hellish time with them. First time they left something under the screen, second time the optical trackpad stopped working. Its awesome now that its finally fixed but oh boy that was annoying.

Thanks for the tip. I hope everything will be back in order because this old Blackberry is archaic. Were they timely?

Going to be honest...no. First repair was 2 weeks. Second was 2 weeks (promised "quick response"). Third was 9 days (GUARANTEED 4 day turn around).
