random apps in my task manager, why?

Hello, I just bought the HTC one S for T-Mobile. Every time I clear the applications in my task manager, they keep coming back after a minute or so. Why is this? They are all random apps that I havent even been using. How do I close out of an app for good, with out it opening back up, until im ready to use it again?

i suggest downloading android task killer and setting it to auto kill. It'll kill the apps every 5mins or every time you put your phone to sleep mode.

settings, contacts, connect to pc, google services, calendar, media, htc weather service, car, flex net, htc account, tasks, notes, and sound set. Although it is not always the same apps that open up.

They're just apps running in the background. They don't do any harm like slowing down your phone. Like i suggested, if you want to get rid of them, download Android task killer and set it to auto kill. It's not needed because android itself closes apps that aren't needed over time. But you will constantly see those apps running in the background even though you haven't used them.

Well, those seem pretty normal, you need many of those running in the background in order to get notifications (like weather/calendar/google services/etc). Android will keep commonly used apps cached in the RAM in order to have them open quickly.

Also, apps are able to use parts of some other apps in order to call certain functions for them to use. When you see something running that you never personally use it is probably an app you do use that needs it for a certain function (hence why it re-opens after you close in in task manager).

I would actually very much advise against using a task killer at all and especially using the auto kill functions of such an app. Like I stated apps will call functions from other apps and so when you kill them automatically, they just re-open in after a little while. Your phone wastes resources trying to kill those apps when it actually needs them to do what you want. If your phone needs more RAM to do what you ask, it will close the apps itself. It learns from your usage and will be smart about it. Unless you know as much about how all that works than the people who wrote the code, I would suggest leaving it alone. It is very different than what most people are used to (in comparison to say a windows pc), but there isn't much reason to worry about those running in the background.

Saying that, sometimes you will run into a "rogue app" that isn't coded very well that will suck system resources. It is not really that common and you can get some app to watch (like watchdog) out for it if you notice performance/battery issues.

For some more in depth info on task killers check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/introductions/394907-kill-apps.html#post3073253. It probably states the points I was trying to make better than I did myself. ;)
