Help Random Network Issues

Got my Desire on 3 network and in the last month I seem to have intermittent connection problems despite having 2,3 or even 4 bars. I can't receive nor make calls. When I try to make a call, it just goes beep. 20 seconds later I retro and it works.

Any ideas? Phone, sim etc?

Sorry to bump this post, but since posting originally, I've been on to 3 Support to no avail.

I'm on software 2.25.771.1, yet my work colleague in on 2.29.xxx.x. We're both on 3 Network?

When I spoke to 3 they said they could update the software, but I'd need to send it back to them. I can't be without a phone so they suggested I take to a 3 store and see if they could loan me a phone in the iterim.

So I popped up to 3 store, and they did a sim swap a few days ago but nothing has changed.

I then tried my sim in colleagues phone, and all worked fine.

His sim in my phone, no calls in / out.

I placed phones in exactly the same spot, so it can't be a network signal.

Its either my phone or my software?

Anyone experienced anything like this? Or should I now wait til Gingerbread to get software update?

Is the rest of 2.29.405.5? If so that's unbranded

You could put that on yours and do the sim swap again. That will tell us if its software or hardware.

Why didn't I think of that.......great idea.

Do I need to back up anything first? My contacts are already on SD card.

Would it invalidate warranty?

Well I would think about googling and downloading Visionary+ temp root application. Root is lost at reboot so no warranty issues there. This will allow you to use titanium backup and backup your entire data/apps/settings.

You would have to make a goldcard to use the 2.29.405.5 software (see rooting faq following the red link in my sig for guide). You can download 2.29.405.5 from the toolbox thread in my sig too and also the goldcard tool required to make the card.

Once you have run the RUU (.exe runs from pc. Insert goldcard, run .exe on pc and follow prompts) your phone will be wiped. You can use visionary+ and titanium to restore eveything though.

It essentially does void warranty having a different software version on there but if it fixes your signal issues, good. If not, return to stock using your current RUU linked below:

Thanks again.

So to get 2.29, I have to root...yes?

If that's the case, any idea why 3 Support were asking me to try "updating the software"?

Sorry for the Qs....only had Desire a few months, and a bit cautious.

Tried my colleague's SIM in my phone today to see if I could update software (wondered whether my SIM was stopping it)....no joy.

I think it is ultimately my phone, as his SIM did the same in my phone, yet my SIM in his phone is fine.

Looks like its going to need to back to Three, but it leaves me without a phone in the meantime....not good! Thought Three shop might loan me a phone, but not so, they weanted me to buy one!!

Thanks for all your help.
