Help Random/Phantom Touch Screen Problems

I have had this HTC incredible phone since July. (I dropped my first one and got it replaced). Over the last few months it has developed a problem with randomly selecting things on the screen. I can have my contact list open and it will start pressing the same spot over and over even though I am not touching it. This of course has led to some random phone calls to people I did not intend on calling. This problem is not limited to the contact list. I have observed it on all screens. When I am typing it seems to want to jam a lot of t's and y's into whatever word I am typing.

I have tried:
- Pulling the battery
- Reinstalling/resetting the phone software
- With/without SD Card
- Cleaning the optical pad and making sure it isn't stuck.

The only solution is to lock/unlock the phone to keep it from mashing away at whatever feature it wants.

However, it occurs randomly, and I can't figure out how to reproduce it.

Any ideas before I head down to the Verizon store and see if they will give me a different one?

There's an app in the market that can sense your touch points (do a market search for multi touch) let it run for a while and see if it randomly senses a touch.

^good advice....

I downloaded a couple of these and tried them out. Of course while I was using them the first time, my phone was acting normally. The next time it started acting stupid, I was able to get one of these programs open.

It would definantly detect a second touch that wasn't there. The second touch would be in the middle of the screen vertically, but move side to side horizontally.

I still don't know how to make it go into "stupid" mode though.

Yeah....I can now replicate the issue....a semi-firm grip around the bottom opposite of the micro-usb slot causes the touch screen to go nuts. Headed out to Verizon to see if they will give me a new(refurb) one.
