Root Random reboot

Coyote

Newbie
Ok, so I just got my TBolt & rooted it the same night. But I noticed that it randomly reboots several times a day. Also it tends to freeze on the boot animation, I had to do a battery pull once, and about half the time there is no sound with the boot animation. I'm still running the stock rom with the MR1 radio for the moment until I get more comfortable with the ROM situation. I upgraded from the LG Ally & really want to set up my Bolt right. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Honestly the issues is you are running MR1 with MR1 radios. I would suggest you download the rooted MR2 rom and MR2 or better radios and it should solve the reboot issue. MR1 created more issues than it resolved.

I actually have that on my list of things to do as well as the teamwin recovery, I've never been a fan of CWM. And then the perm s-off. When I flash the MR2 can I still use the stock rom for a bit or do I have to go custom?

The rooted MR2 rom is actually a stock rom you will need to flash the radios for it as well so you will have service. I would suggest that be the first thing you do (maybe TWRP first if that will be your primary recovery so you can make a nandroid) so you aren't prompted for the OTA and accidently accept it

No roms are flashed via recovery CWM or TWRP, radios are flashed in hboot, you rename the radio PG05IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD, power off and hold volume down and power to turn on it will scan the card and prompt for you to update. Remove the zip from the root of the SD power off and go back into hboot then use volume down to select recovery, press the power button and it will take you CWM or TWRP and you will be able to flash the rom. For more detailed instructions read the how to sticky and it will give you a step by step.

This rom looks like it provides support for the MR2 radio so you can use the updated radio with the rom.

thought I'd do the perm s-off as well while i'm at it. any advise on what order to proceed? < radio - s-off - rom> sound good?

No,nothing is flashed in 1 step. roms are flashed via recovery CWM or TWRP, ....

your first sentence was a lil confusing,so i clarified,hope you dont mind.

the custom mr2 will not change to the permanent patch hboot,it simply has hboot removed,so you will need to flash that afterward. i had actually considered putting the perm patch one in,but it hadnt been out long enuff for me to be comfortable making that decision for folks that used it. if i were to do it again,id go ahead and put it in,as its a great peace of mind and protection against accidents.

as yeahha said,the most important thing for you to do is quickly get off of mr1 firmware,before your phone tries to update you.

id honestly leave the perm s-off till last. flashing a new bootloader is a high risk operation(no bootloader=brick :eek:) so youll want to pay close attention to md5 sums,etc,and not be in a hurry.

it doesnt matter wether you flash the rom or the radio first,but do those 2 right away...

*flash rom and radio
-set up phone,enjoy it a lil bit :)
-flash twrp
-make a nandroid
-flash perm s-off(double and triple check md5s,make sure phone has a good charge)

also remember not to leave any PG05IMG files lingering on your sd card after flashing. always hide,rename,or delete them right away. :)

I already did teamwin. I've always had trouble out of CWM so i couldn't wait to get rid of it. So now it's radio then rom then s-off. Thanks to both of you for all your input. now i'm off to flash, flash, flash!!

HOW DARE YOU :mad::p

@Coyote

Yeah just be sure to check MD5 sums before you flash anything. Go ahead and download the radio at the same time as the rom as you will not have signal when only one of the two are flashed
