Help Random rebooting

What I would do if you want to give it a shot, and don't be surprise if it works, LOL I would take a screen shot of all my app pages and save it, then I would do a factory reset, then once you resign into Gmail, I would make sure you uncheck to have Google back up your apps. then set your phone up, but do not download any of your 3rd party apps and run it like that for a week or so and see if your phone reboots again, if not then, then instal your apps one by one, and only download what you really need for now and see if it reboots, if not make a note and download your other apps and see, if it is a 3rd app doing it that is one way to see.

Still have to deal with this every month or so. It'll happen multiple times over a couple days and then go away. It's frustrating.

Just got my Evo 3D yesterday as a replacement cuz my other one was stolen (long Story). Anyways....opened it out of the box yesterday and its been randomly rebooting ever since. Anybody have any solutions in this thread. We all know that the problem exists so now whats the solution?

Can you explain what is boot into recovery and how do I do that? And what is Davlik?

Turn off your phone completely and hold volume down when you turn it back on. It will boot into recovery, which is kind of like a MS DOS type thing back on windows.

And make sure you have fast boot un check, or you will not be able to boot into recovery

I purchased my wife's 3vo on Dec 16th. Charged the battery for her that day, and it still remained unused/booted till Christmas night. The next day, it locked up for no reason, did a battery pull and all was well. She also started getting force closes on acore processes, just here and there for some reason. Then tonite, it went into a random bootloop when she wasnt even using it. After a battery pull, the OS loaded but was met with immediate FC's of everything from Google services, acore processes, and just about every other startup process existing on the phone. The FC's wouldn't clear, and after several more battery pulls, I was forced to do a factory reset from the recovery/hboot menu.

Only apps she's loaded were FB, Words with Friends, Hanging with Friends, iHeart Radio, Weatherbug, and IpCam Viewer, all from market. These are pretty stable/common apps, and her first reboot/FC was prior to loading any of them. She's unrooted, so I couldnt do any cache wipes or fault ROMs or kernels.

Anyone else have these issues right outta the box this way? Just seems quite early to be having problems like this, especially on an essentially stock setup (she doesn't even know how to remove an icon from the homescreen, she's bout as stock as it gets lol). Just wondering if I should go ahead and use my free replacement from Radio Shack if the problem is her specific phone.

hi,

been on this forum since day one and have had the 3D since day one. Have not seen the experience you have noticed. does nto mean it has not happened, just that its not common.

the handset is solid.

it could be anything. if you completed a factory fresh reset and it had the same issues WITHOUT loading up apps, then its a handset issue. if you did the reset and then re loaded the apps and the issue was there, then it could be an app or two. could have been the way you installed them, could have been a bad install, etc.

if the handset is new, why beat your head against a wall? just swap it out for a new unit. :)

I have merged your post here since you are mainly having rebooting issues. the evo 3D has proven itself to be a worthwhile contender (one of the top 5 handsets of 2011) and is very stable but just like any other mass produced device, it can have some issues crop up here and there.

Well, Radio Shack told me they could replace it for me once, that's it. And it'd be best to call Sprint first in case they can offer more help on the issue, than to waste my free replacement now. Think I may call RS back tomorrow and find out how long that free replacement is valid for. Sprint of course wants $100 already if they have to replace it. Thanks for the info, just wasn't sure if this was a possible issue known with the 3vo or not, I still spend most of my time in the OG EVO forum ;)

Had the same problem with a new EVO 3D. Sprint store tested the phone, said the battery immediately failed their test, mailed me two "re-conditioned" HTC batteries. Phone was better but almost always rebooted after a "Navigation" session. Based on what I read on several forums, I bought an Anker 1900mAh battery from Amazon and have had no problems since. ymmv. A lot of folks seem to think that particular HTC battery has problems with supplying proper voltage. Oh, the phone got warm in Navigation prior to Anker battery installation, now it stays cool.

Yeah I suspect the battery as well. I change from the stock to my Seidio 4000 and back whenever it's acting up and it does well for like a month.

I Have had "many" reboots and freezes on my Sprint HTC EVO 3D since I bought it new around Nov 2011. Numerous freezes that battery remove will not fix, and requires factory reset (a pain to reload APPS and resetup).

Sprint won't replace because factory reset will always fix it and it works perfectly -- for some indeterminate amount of time before it resets itself again while just sitting on desk, in my pocket, on a call, after disconnecting a call, or in NAV or some other APP. But NEVER at the same place twice:rolleyes:.

I have concluded it is much more likely to happen when the battery is low or something demands additional power. Although, my battery will last pretty much all day under my normal useage patterns with about 15% remaining. So I am curious if there is a battery issue, or if anyone has more information about the battery relationship to the reboot and freezing issues. I wonder if there is a voltage threshold issue with memory or a voltage regulator (on mine) that is agrivated when the battery is slightly low.

Other than this maddening issue, I absolutely love the EVO 3D when it is functioning as designed and intended:).

I would like to have a solution ---- short of my next option (to place in my 750 Watt Microwave Oven and cook it at high power for 30 seconds, then return it to Sprint explaining that it won't do ANYTHING and I would like a replacement!)

Please help

Well, I answered my own question. I replaced the battery with an Anker 1900mah battery and it made NO difference in the rebooting on its own or the other stupid things its doing like "spurious" keypresses that cause it to jump all over the place.

Then last night when I plugged in the charger, the screen lit up and wouldn't time out -- so I tried to turn the screen off with the power button -- AND NOTHING. Everything is locked up tight. It is still sitting there today HUNG with the screen lit and totally dead to any touch (with half charge). However my internet router log file indicates it has logged onto WiFi every six minutes (to the second) all night long last night.

Sure, I could take the battery out - AGAIN - and it would probably reboot and act normal -- for awhile. But it's going BACK to Sprint one last time and if they won't replace it, it is going into the microwave oven!

Before you put it in the microwave, I'd recommend you try the RUU or rooting it and installing a custom ROM. Info for both can be found here: http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all-things-root/495121-htc-evo-3d-all-things-root-guide.html

Both the RUU and rooting will wipe your data again, but the RUU will reinstall all of the factory software and firmware, not just clear out your settings. Custom ROMs do mostly the same thing, but add features and optimizations.

I had a lot of random reboots and freezing as well as the camera freezing and ever since I put viperROM 2.1.1 on my EVO 3D its been fine. The camera may have frozen a couple times but less than before and the reboots and freezes were my biggest problem anyway. I don't know if it has anything to do with this particular ROM or not but I'm thrilled that it stopped. My problem now is that I want to try MEANROM but I'm afraid to switch ROMs with the current one running so well. LOL So far I'm definitely glad I rooted my phone and tried a custom ROM.

hello guys i want to help i also have a tablet pc comes with cortex a8 processor 1.5 ghz and 512 ram running android gingerbread the brand of my tab is not famous, its kingcom here in philippines if ever your tablet has the same specs with mine you can follow my solution, ok i bought the tablet but i notice it also random reboot whatever the device want to reboot it self whether i just reading or gaming i had 2 reboots in an hour its so frustrating
that i want the device just throw in the garbage, what i did is i transferred all the application from my sd card to device storage using app2sd emptying my sd card after that i put task killer so that i can kill all the apps that is on, after i did all of that my device run smooth in a day i just got one reboot sometimes not rebooting, before u do my procedure do restore factory setting i hope my procedure will help to those experiencing random reboot

Genius! That Mail app was the villain causing me hell. I formatted twice with super wipe and factory reset 3 times and it all came down to the mail app. Find another mail app other than the stock one. The mail app use to work fine but not anymore even with a factory reset. I don't know if it updated or what but get rid of it if you are having this problem.

I didn't have to put it in the microwave at full 750 Watt power for 30 seconds like I threatened in my last post. But I will admit that I tried in anger to smash it (no exaggeration) slamming it about three times face down on the steering wheel of my car. { It did not break, It's a real tough device.}

Then I drove straight to the Sprint store and convinced them to give me a new replacement phone.

Since that day in March the new EVO 3D has NEVER rebooted. NOT EVEN ONE TIME. AND, I have NEVER experienced the other aggravating issue of spurious key presses that I experienced with the original phone.

This one has functioned flawlessly and I absolutely love the phone.

Hi folks,

My wife had a year old EVO 3D and the outside bevel was falling off. She took it into a sprint store while out of town and the guy there ripped the whole outside bezel all the way off by mistake and said, "Here, we'll just give you a new one, free of charge." He ended up giving her a refurbished 3VO with ICS already updated on it and it started rebooting about 6 times a day. I told her to take it back to our local sprint store and have them give you another one.
My wife says this is what happened: The fella there said, "Oh the guy at the other store must not have tried...(something, my wife has no idea what he meant)" And he took her phone and started playing around with the settings on the menu and said, "...there, that should fix it."
It's been two days now and the phone hasn't rebooted once.
Huh? What could the guy possibly have adjusted software-wise to fix a rebooting phone?
If anyone knows, I know you folks do. :)

^^^ My thoughts exact, usually most when they update their OTA on their phone, they usually never to a FR, so that would be the first thought to mind.

Nothing was changed on the phone, I didn't have to re-install or move anything back, wouldn't a reset have erased the apps in the phones memory?

Yes, unless she set up her Gmail account and those downloaded from the Store.

Doesn't sound like it from what you're saying though.

Hmmmm.... (thinking)...
