Help Random Reboots already!

Love the phone but was running that golf game that comes with it and all of a sudden reboots. Rebooted like 5 times today. All stock. Only have the task killer installed. Any ideas?

I got random reboots as well. It started happening more and more frequently, and I took it to Verizon to get it exchanged today.

Task Killers (Especially Auto Task Killers) sometimes kill a task that the OS needs to continue running. When this happens your phone freaks out and reboots.

There is no need for task killers after Android 2.1 as it has better memory mgmt than <2.0 had.

Last step in troubleshooting android is to do a Factory Reset to rule out any software causing reboots.

If you factory reset and the reboots stop, then you know for sure that it was something you installed.

If you factory reset and it continues rebooting BEFORE INSTALLING APPS, then you have a hardware problem.

Simple.

I agree they are useless but in all the time I ran one on my Inc, it never caused a single reboot, and def not serial reboots

This is a new device and we really don't know what can and cannot be killed/removed/altered without causing issues.
On a device like this running task killers is probably going to cause trouble.

Right now I am installing as little as possible to ensure it's stable.
Then after a few days I will change some more things.. and so on.

No need for task killer. Get rid of it

They are handy and work IF you exclude system apps. The misnomer is when people do not set up exclusions. I notice a definite performance increase with my Inc and gTablet when playing Flash or N64/PSX games.

Android fills up actual ram and all it can with 2.2 and above. Not just a case of loading app data into a stack register and "pretending" to multi task. Some Android apps are resource hogs and need to be stopped- not too mention help to save battery :)

Android 2.2 and above gets TOO carried away with multi tasking, IMO.

My phone hasn't had the first reboot yet. It's actually kind of amazing compared to my old DX which randomly rebooted itself daily.

just got my first random reboot...hopefully this won't develop into a pattern or condition...

Edit: I have never installed a task killer on this phone.

I'm also having random reboots/restarts. This morning it went into an infinite loop of reboots. Pulled the battery... it stopped. Then it started up again.

Called Verizon and they said that it is a faulty unit. To take it to a Verizon Wireless store for a replacement. Will do.

One way it is happening is when I plug in the microUSB charger. Boom! The screen goes dark and the HTC logo comes up with a reboot.

Welp, turns out since I bought it through Amazon Wireless, I have to go through them for the replacement. For the first 30 days, anyways. The sad part, is that Amazon is backordered on the phone so I can't get a new one until next Thursday! Gah!

Oh well... maybe the HTC gods will fix it automagically.

Just had my 3rd since Sunday.

Right after I ended a call and set the phone down. Saw the white HTC screen.

I don't know if this was the reason... but I uninstalled Beautiful Widgets and it hasn't rebooted since. (I had the 4x1 weather widget on a homepage, if that matters)

Anyone with random reboots also have Beautiful Widgets installed?
