Random shut downs all day long

Rayin

Newbie
Hello wise folk. I am having a problem where my phone keeps randomly turning itself off. This never happens when I'm using it - it's only after a period of inactivity when I go to my phone to find it unresponsive. Have to hold down power button for ten or so seconds then release and hold for 2 ish second to get it back on again.

I am using ICS rooted with neat ROM. The issue seems a lot worse since doing this. It is happening 4-5 times a day.

Prior to neat ROM I was on gingerbread with check ROM. The shut downs as described above did happen then but nowhere near as frequent.

I don't recall it ever happening before I rooted.

Any suggestions? Lmk if you need any other info for potential diagnosis

Thanks

Hy Rayin.
Had a similar problem with the phone going into SOD (Sleep of Death) mode. Here`s the link to my thread:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/580200-sod-sleep-death-sgs2.html

How I solved it? Flashed the rom (NEAT Rom LPI) again and when i restored my apps i did it without restoring the data (restored apps only). From that time it works without any SOD. Might be that some application doesn`t allow the phone to wake once it goes to sleep mode.
Hope you`ll solve yours I know how annoying can be.
Good luck .

If you moved directly from Gingerbread CheckROM to ICS NEAT ROM, without flashing a stock ICS ROM in between, this could be the cause of your problems. See post #1, here.

Thanks dramed I will have a look at that. Thing is when I flashed neat ROM I didn't restore any apps - just installed them from the market. I did a factory reset and data wipe before flashing neat ROM and the only data I restored was my contacts. Maybe its a case of installing apps one by one and trying to find the culprit

Ironass I did that by doing a restore through cwm recovery to stock gingerbread, then flashed o2 branded stock ICS, rooted and flashed neatROM. Is that correct?

That's correct. It gives you an ICS base to work from, as I found out!

I would go with dramed's suggestion and do a Factory reset and be careful what app's you load back on. Don't forget, there are still app's that are not compatible with ICS. Personally, I would re-download the app's and re-do the settings to prevent any conflicts between Gingerbread and ICS settings. As you can see from my details on the left, I'm using Neat ROM LPI, full version, with no problems whatsoever.

I had this problem once, found changing kernels (I was using Siyah) solved it for me. When I changed ROM again later on, I could go back to Siyah and never had the problem again.
