Random Thought Thread

Finally made the switch :0 I have a full on install of ChromiumOS by Hexxeh and OMG I LOVE IT. WHY HADN'T I THOUGHT OF THIS. It's light for running off a 160 GB HDD :D :D :p

I think my netbook is just not compatible. Too old maybe.
I feel bad. I mean it's all online. And kinda looks like KitKat. How old is it? I had a netbook from like 2010 and it went and installed in like 2 seconds. (Except for the fact that I had installed like 8GB of RAM and an SSD :p)

Really wonder if KitKat will unify the platform going forward(finally). The fragmentation of android is unparalleled, even a dying BlackBerry brand has more continuity across its various devices. While I do loath fragmentation I do appreciate the fact we have everything from entry level to super phones. But with the talk of far better memory management and optimizations for lower ram/processor devices(in KitKat) one can only hope for a more unified platform.

...? Maybe. But like older devices that have low RAM meet the requirements...but what about the CPU? I mean KitKat right now only supports ARMv7 and up right now. Most Gingerbread and down devices have ARMv6. Unless someone decides to port ARMv6 arch, its not gonna happen. Along with screen and GPU. There are so many screen drivers for one of my phones. (Novatek and Hitachi) You have to be extremely careful on my Optimus V to not flash a ROM that has incorrect screen drivers. I mean yeah it'd be great to be unified. But its just a hassle for Google to try and bring it over to older devices.

While that's true I find it very interesting that the majority of the KitKat Gapps are signed installable apks... (for most 4.1.2+ devices)at a minimal I hope it unifies 4.X devices(Armv7 as you mentioned) but its a pipe dream. We've been complaining about fragmentation for ages and probably will continue to do so.

I chose to upgrade my Optimus V to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 from thekraven. But since the /system partition is like ~155MB and there's no way I can fit those gapps-- wait. Link2SD. Maybe this might work out. (Odd how JellyBean is running on a Froyo device, isn't it?)

Can someone explain the live chat thing on this website? I would like to chat live with fellow members, but due to seeing this message when I click on the link, I don't want to. Does the live chat thing work? Do people use it, and is it safe to use?

If its from androidforums.com it should be able to run. If its not DONOT CLICK RUN. Make sure it is from AF

Yes, that's the only site I access the forums from. Still get this page. Why does this come up, even if I am on this site?

Because Java (any JRE; won't matter) wants you to stay safe and not want you to run unsigned jar files from sources you don't know.

Edit: forgot to explain that AF hasn't signed their jar file for the IRC app, so that's why you are getting this message.

We're on freenode irc, channel #androidforums - it's not nearly as active as it once was, but it's there.

If you're new to irc, Google for "freenode web" and if you're an old hand at it, I recommend AndChat for Android, ChatZilla for Firefox on your desktop.

Eventually, the link here that causes all of the Java trouble is likely to go away.
