Just for the record, I hate Halloween. It makes no sense and serves no purpose other than teaching children how to beg -- arrogantly -- from total strangers. I always hang out someplace other than home until about ten pm so all the little gremlins are strapped in bed.

I've enjoyed Halloween much more since I've been in China, rather in than the UK. We did do trick or treating at the weekend for the young students at the training school. But it was all prearranged and highly supervised, and only knocked on doors of people we knew and had agreed to it. Basically the students' parents. Also because it's a gated community, unsolicited door knocking, hawking, etc. just does not happen.

Yeah, but that's when all the big Gremlins come out and smash Jack-o-lanterns, egg houses, and play mailbox baseball.

The next imported festival to be celebrated is Thanksgiving, at the end of November I think it is, then Christmas in December. Non of which are a public holiday of course.

Thanksgiving is such an American holiday, I can't believe other countries would adopt it. What's next, Brits celebrating the 4th of July? :p

Only some aspects have been adopted, like there's no mention of "pilgrim fathers" or "new world". :thumbsupdroid:

This is part of last year's school Thanksgiving spread for foreign teachers. What would have been turkey is Peking duck.

So basically it's Thanksgiving "with Chinese characteristics." :D ...as the government would say...

@Gmash You mean the Brits don't? I thought they were glad to be rid of the problematic subjects.
Well this year they're probably glad to be rid of us, though I see the Brexit crowd as pretty much the equivalent of what we're dealing with at the moment. But even if the Brits are glad now, I seem to remember reading that they put up a teeny fight about letting us go. :p

The kid is annoyed at the Brits and Halloween. They have to have fireworks. There is apparently an Indian or such holiday and something else going on that it sounds like WW3 for a couple of weeks.

I bought her a breadmaker from Amazon UK. She said she's going to introduce her Brit husband to cornbread.
