Oh, well, maybe not the word per se - more some kind of abbreviation.
Anyway, since I updated to 2.3.3. XWKPO, (at samfirmware.com) I had no SOD. Been almost a week.
[fingers crossed that this is THE solution...]
I have tested the same issue... "Display randomly going off"..
Initially, used to keep the wifi ON always.. & i used to experience the same issue atleast 1-3 times a day..
Now, i switch OFF the wifi wen not required... & have tested for 3 days.... Works fine... So, i too believe the issue is with the wifi driver.. For sure cannot be a h/w issue..
Please keep us posted on your experience with this version of GB and whether or not you experience anymore SoD.
After leaving this issue for a while (a few month) I've now checked to see if somebody have a new idea - and it seems guys are going in circles.
I've managed to avoid the SOD just by not putting any SD card in the phone.
it seems there's some hardware bug on the SDIO bus (WIFI and SD are on the same bus) causing the software to hang. this is ofcourse a software bug also, since the software should just retry to read from the device or even reset the SDIO device - but as we can see, the software just goes into a deep sleep.
I guess different handsets have a slight different problem, and that the reason why some guys have a slight different behavior of the problem.
the conclusion is simple - hardware bug which enables a software bug.
I'm sure 100% that it can be solved by software, since the SDIO is an external bus which should not be able to kill the application processor.
My 4 year old Blackberry was better built than this phone...
Samsung ACE SOD wifi fix
After using the phone without SD card for a couple of month, lately I needed the SD card a bit more (can't install anything without the card, you need it as temp storage ..)
I looked a bit more, and found that there is a new firmware for the Samsung ACE - XWKPT (release date aug 11). this release is 2.3.3 and not 2.3.4 as previous one - a bit strange, but kernel version on both is 2.6.35.7.
Any way, with this release (which has different AR6000/wifi driver) I have the phone running now for two days without any SOD - previous record was 20 minutes. (WIFI + SD !!!)
firmware is from www.SamFirmware.com
I've also installed the 2.3.4 RTL fix (with deodex) and it also works fine together.
Now lets see if this solution is final or just better statistics ...
So far, now a bit over 222 hours with no sleep of death or other issues.
Actually, I wish I never got the Ace. They should rename it the Samsung Galaxy Arse.
Since KPN FW, the SOD issue was solved. KPN, KPO, KPT are all without SOD problem.
The only thing which prevents me from getting SODs is by using the SD card which was supplied with the phone, if I use any other card my phone still has SODs.

Will do! SOD or no SOD.
So far - so good...

UPDATE
From 19June to 02Aug, no SOD using this method (WI-FI KEEP ALIVE application)
Just to check-in & update: it's been over a month now with no SOD
on 2.3.3. KPO...
I think I can call it THE solution.
