Rant: "The Shack" Evo Pre Order

RS has the exact same 30 day return policy as a Sprint store. If you change your mind within 30 days of activation you get a full refund. The $50 deposit is a non-refundable purchase of a gift card which can be used for anything at RS, including the EVO.

Yeah my non-refundable part was pertaining to the RS gift card, but I didn't put together that it's just a gift card which could be used for anything at RS. My bigger point was the warranty issue. I'd hate to shell out that much money for a phone, have it be defective, and then be unable to get it replaced.

my RS pre-order was a pretty decent one. the guy didnt know much about the EVO other than the store owner dropping by the day before to show them the paperwork involved. he was a pretty awesome guy. we talked about some army stories before i walked out of there with my gift card and receipt. he said that i was the first pre-order. this was at 6:30 PM on the 14th. he asked when i would like to pick it up.. i replied "ill be here before most employees" :)

well i first went to one RS...the guys didnt have any idea really, but once they found out, they were cool and suggested that i went to one of the bigger stores cause they said they would have no accessories and also made it seem like it wasnt a good idea to order from that store lol...but either way i went to one of the bigger stores at one of the malls here, and the pre order went smooth. guy knew exactly what to do. he also told me that he was able to mess around with the phone for a little while...and he said the thing is amazing...so ill be there as soon as they open on the 4th.

The complete opposite happened at my Radio Shack I went to.

The guy was very nice, realized I knew what I was talking about, and was rather excited that I was the first pre-order. Being the first pre-order, he did have to ask his Manager a few things, but it went as smooth as butter.

Same here. The guy didn't bother me at all. It was his first pre-order though so he also had to ask the manager how to do it.

I had a really good experience at RS. The guy that helped me had been off a week so he didn't even know there was a release date yet for the phone. He asked me to give him a few minutes to read the memo on it. Then he took my pre-order and told me he was excited about this phone coming out. He told me they would be getting a demo phone there soon. I can't wait until the 4th!

Is radio shack still taking pre orders? I went to bb and was told they are no longer taking them. I asked if they were going to get more phones than just the pre order phones and he said probably not. He said this pre order is like nothing he has ever seen before. He has never seen so many pre orders for a phone before.. This in a suburb of Cleveland.

Hmm, not sure if that's a big issue really, as long as Sprint lets you sign up for TEP when you activate the phone. That's $7 a month, defective/worn phones are repaired/replaced free (sometimes with newer models.), avoidable damage or a lost phone would have a $100 replacement fee.

If you buy it on eBay (or retail), you could go with a SquareTrade warranty. A little cheaper than Sprint's insurance, possibly a good bit cheaper if there's a coupon available.

Many folks insure their phones through their renters/homeowners insurance, which again is often less expensive than Sprints.

I've stayed with Sprint's TEP because I've had good service at the nearby repair center. Of course Your Mileage May Vary depending the specific locations near you but the nearest Sprint repair store to me has been hassle free. (They replaced two old phones that had "issues" with free refurb upgrades :) ) The one phone I lost got replaced via the mail, again hassle free, but unfortunately with a $50 (now $100) fee.

never use your home insurance or renters twards that. it can screw up getting a different company and on next contract renewal they an raise your rates

damn thats crazy. i would def run over to a radio shack and just say you wanna pre order...but before doing so, confirm that if you pre order when u do...if it will guarantee a phone on launch date (june 4th)

I ordered mine at "The Shack" and all went good. Although I will say, I went to 2 different ones before I pulled the trigger. The first store I wen to the guys was trying too hard to be hip/cool. The second store the guy was laid back and there was zero pressure/upsell. Needless to say, I ordered at the second store.
