Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

If you don't allow auto update, but do get a notice that an update is available, you can read the "improvements and notes" before you update - at least for Android apps. It's usually listed as "what's new"

I just go check on my updates when I feel like it. All listed under "My Apps"

Exactly. Nothing auto updates on any of my devices.

I'd just come back from spending five days in "Xanadu New Town" teaching English, four hours in a taxi. I pressed the wrong button in the lift, not realized it, was on autopilot and not looking at the numbers. All the landings and front doors in the place are identical. It finally dawned on me when I looked up at the apartment number above the door. "1802". I live in 1702....

People trying to get into the wrong house or apartment could be a real problem sometimes, because they actually could get in occasionally. When they built some of these places, they often fitted cheap locks with a very limited number of key combinations. I heard when they built a new housing area in my hometown in the UK, someone found they could unlock every twelfth front door using their own front door key.i.e. apparently there was only twelve key combinations for the locks they used.

I once came out of a hardware store and got into my old faded brown station wagon with it's peeling fake wood sides. I stuck my key into the ignition and it wouldn't turn. My first thought was crap... just one more thing going wrong with this old worn out ford. I sat there wiggling my key and trying desperately to get it to turn. I finally gave up and was postulating what my course of action should be when I noticed.. IT WAS NOT MY CAR! My car was parked right next to the one I was sitting in. If that key would have worked, I'd have driven someone's worn out station wagon home instead of mine.

Google is not that great at taking my interests. It keeps shoving Bernie Sanders in my face on G+, saying it's recommended for me. Only thing I like less than a socialist is a communist

Sand fleas.
Flies.
Ticks.
Mosquitoes.
Fire ants.
Wasps.
Rap.
My left foot, in a sandal (how stupid), got mauled by fire ants the other day. Due my radiculopathy (lack of feeling in my feet and legs, from back surgeries and type 1 diabetes), I didn't feel a thing... but, anaphylaxis kicked in, and out came the Epi pen, then, Benedryl once my throat opened up to normal (that is, after vomiting from the norepinephrine).

34 fire ant bites. I was so stupid to wear my sandals. My foot and ankle swelled up, so we iced it down.

Now, the little white pustules have shown up. I feel so stupid. All I was trying to do was prune a pear tree for my lady, because she wasn't able to do it.

We're treating all the ant mounds, and sandy areas like where I stepped that don't even look like fire ant territory with Amdro.

Biting flies and mosquitos in the rural Northeastern United States are an @$$ ache, but fire ants in the Southern US really, truly, suck. LW

Beggar playing the erhu badly.

Google is not that great at taking my interests either, mainly because I don't exactly encourage it, especially with living in a certain communist country. "communist" in name, but not really Marxist-Leninist these days.

You actually use Google+? I don't think I've ever opened the app. Facebook is too much social media on the internet as it is, I don't need hangouts, Google+, Twitter, etc on top of that. Personal choice

Me personally, I do use G+, but only to read thing people post and to share articles, YouTube stuff, or funny images on the net.

I don't have anything personal on G+, and will never do so. I also absolutely refuse to use or even browse Facebook.

I don't use it either. I've got all the apps that could shove Google ads in my face disabled. Since I won't support this town if I can help it - showing me local ads is useless. As for other ads - let me pick. I'd take ads from the big photo stores in NY,
Orion Telescopes, Sizzix, King Arthur Flour and a few other sites, but can't pick those only. I get newsletters from the companies I'm interested in.

I use Gmail for one person. The Gmail accounts are now spam traps. I use FB for the kid, on the PC, but only FB and Akamai are enabled. I only enable via NoScript if I do use FB. Disable both and close the browser which is set up to delete everything on exit.

The problem with that is not all developers utilize that. They will use it once and never use it again lol

Yes, it's things that really grind my gears.
no one, the one thing that keeps showing up in your rants is 'rap'.

In my generation, to 'rap' was usually a group discussion; usually about 'The Establishment' (our US government and politics), which I won't get into in this forum.

There are rules. Moderators remind us, when we overstep the boundaries in forums like this one.

You know how to rant - short, simple and sweet. The truth is, since I'm musician, I'm not a fan of rap, or hip hop music. To me, 'producers' in that musical spectrum CHEAT - sampling someone else's grooves, and creating loops of those to lay the song's foundation.

Then, add extremely low frequency bass, and make sure that the vocals are out there with neodymium mics, that have a rise in the 3 kHz range.

Top it off with lots of high frequency sparkle - then, master it using lots of frequency compression, while boosting the amplitude to Red Book specs.

To fans of rap, and hip hop - I have nothing against you, personally. This is the music of your generation(s), and culture. You have every right to enjoy it.

As I have every right to dislike it. My rant.

Brilliant he is (as well as his band). Who else can cover such a wide variety of genres? Even his original materiel is often an homage to an artist or group and the listener can easily tell whom he is digging at.

One of my favorites is 'Traffic Jam', in the style of Prince, the one artist who continually refuses to allow Al to parody any of his music.
