Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I had been with Geico for over 20 years and when it came time to sell the truck the insurance was due to be paid. I let it go, thinking that when i got the new car I would just get new insurance.

The dealership would not let me drive the car off the lot without insurance, (I paid cash for it) and it was 7 pm and we were all tired of bickering over the price, so I called The General for instant insurance to be able to drive it home, (I was 60 miles from home)

Not only was the agent inept I got gigged on the price ! The next morning I called Geico to see what I had to do to get back in the fold. I informed the agent that I would cancel The General and call her back and she says, "No, that means your rate will be higher because you have no insurance ! Sign up now and then cancel it and you get a better rate !"

So I do and The General wants to argue with me about a full refund, they requested a letter stating I wanted to cancel it and then refused to give me full refund even though I technically only used their policy for 8 hours.

I called the bank that holds the credit card I used that evening and they said they would put the purchase in dispute for investigation. I asked that the card be locked so The General could not make any more charges in case the investigation took so long the next payment was due.

Smart move as even though I had made 4 phone calls requesting cancellation and a written notice for cancellation, The General still tried to charge my card for the next months payment ! ! !

A transaction on your credit card ending in **** was declined.
You attempted to make a purchase of $150.95 at The General 800 280 14 that was declined.

The electric lift that raises and lowers the deck on my big mower quit again today. I should have had it replaced when it was in the shop a month ago. I have the parts located and will buy they tomorrow. The trick will be if I can do the repair. Doing without my big mower for three weeks in the spring will kill me.

I managed to buy my deck actuator and replaced it yesterday morning. It was a more difficult task than I anticipated. The deck is very heavy and sits on the lift. I couldn't figure out where to lift on the deck to take the pressure off of the motor and it was way difficult to put the new lift in position. They wanted $200 to do the repair. For a retired guy, that four or five lawns time. :) Besides, I couldn't wait three week for them to do the repair. I'm just glad it's done.

For about the last few handful of months, when I have my normal bg running apps, (I.e. normal camera, text messaging, and my weather app, Carrot) sometimes my square button does not wanted to work, I have to reboot it and it is fine though. And when I head to the square button for most recent apps, sometimes it shows my wallpaper just ontop of the app though, I find that odd on my moto edge plus...

U.S. companies that portray themselves as a U.S. manufacturer, but all their products are made in Asia.

I confronted one such company, and they replied that they design their product and do quality checks to make sure their products are up to their quality standard.

Bottom line, they are not a U.S. manufacturer; they are an Asian importer.

I had a great time at the cabin yesterday and the weather was perfect for hanging out on the deck. I hated to leave but left in time for the couples staying over night to prepare some dinner. My rant is I hate ticks. They are always bad this time of year and I should have showered and checked myself more closely on my return home but I failed to do so. I awoke in the night with one eating on my shoulder and found another this morning on my leg. I HATE ticks!

Not being able to spend time with my sister, I keep inviting her over here, but today is her mother in law's birthday, and she has a puppy thing later on tonight.

I've done some thinking on the actuator. It has an internal clutch of some sort that chatters when it reaches a stopping point in movement. By design it lets you know that you have the deck lowered against the physical stops that govern the cut height. It is also making that chattering noise when I try to raise the deck off a stop. Either the deck is frozen in place (extremely unlikely) Or I have the installed the actuator at the extreme end of it's extension and it can't raise anymore. This seems the most likely but I don't know why it worked and now it doesn't.

The best part is it has failed at the height that I use the mower the most. I can use my 3' mower to mow the lawns that I cut shorter. It won't be nearly as efficient but doable until I have the window to investigate the lift problem. The lift was a refurbished motor so I have no idea what sort of warranty it has if it comes to that.

My Bose QC35 headphones I bought in 2016 are still okay, although I've only really them used on flights, and train journeys.
I used the broken bose at work and then mowing. For the last few years they were used just while mowing and when riding my bike. In the scheme of things... they have countless hours on them. I guess I replace them with the Ultra. I thought about the quietcomfort 2 but they are dated and the same price.

To the guy who lives behind me and to the left, thank you for getting up at 6:30am to cut your grass and to the neighbor directly behind me who let their dog bark at the guy the entire time.....F you both!!!

Mow your lawn at 11:30 tonight. That will piss of the neighbor that mowed in the morning. The dog will bark again, which will piss off the both the early mower and the dog's owner.
