Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Thanks, I'll stick to books--the cinematography is usually excellent, the characters all look the way I imagine them to, and I can play it anywhere (No internet or even electricity necessary).

I do the same. That's why movies disappoint.

They don't make movies of books like "Roving Mars, Sojourner, Curiosity. (Roving Mars did have a taped lecture by Steve Squyres (lots of the geology}and someone did put together a documentary of the rover, but not all the challenges it faced even getting off the ground. I also don't think they will make a movie of "Spam Nation", either.

Here's a vid made by Opportunity's Hazcams. It has an APSX, Mossbauer Spectrometer, and a RAT - Rock Abrasion Toll in the end of the arm. The Spectrometer has a camera also.

It's just the customer service that drives me absolutely bananas - and I'm one of the most patient people I know. I love the services that I have, it's just that having to call them... ever... is almost always excruciating. The main problem I have when I call is that since they've outsourced most of their call centers, 99/100 times I get someone in India (no offense to anyone in India) & they're not even familiar with the service enough to be of any help.

Anyway, I'm not gonna worry about it any more until after my CA trip. I have enough going on with that coming up & my hurt foot (not sure if I told you guys about that? I tore a tendon or something so my foot hurts) but it's not going to stop me from having fun in CA with my daughter :)

One thing I miss about DC after I moved to Vegas is FIOS. Cox, Direct TV & Century Link are all a joke.

Don't they have that in other places? We have it in almost every city now. They don't call it "FIOS", China Unicom calls it "FiberHome" here, and it's fibre optic cable all the way into the home instead of copper pair or coax cable, hence the name. :)

UberPop is illegal in my country, but I am still seeing this ad in my AF app ;)

Apparently Atticus Finch was a racist member of the KKK in the sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird"

That's too bad for anybody who was named Atticus after him.

I'm here, EarlyOne. I've been visiting a new forum (A Xenoforo-type, like this one) that has to do with vaping - something I've done when I stopped smoking cigarettes almost four years earlier.

My lady and I celebrated our third anniversary today - so, what's up? I see a link that looks interesting...

This thread is still my fave, as is this forum. My rant for today is about the newer restrictions placed upon vaping in the state where I live, North Carolina. It's getting even worse in other states - but, they've increased the tax on e-liquid sales here, and the Army city of Fayetteville, NC has even banned vaping in and out of doors.

Just when I thought I found a less expensive, more healthy way to take care of my nicotine addiction - the things that I cannot discuss in this forum are slowly taking away a human right that is an actual solution to second-hand smoke, carcinogens, and the ability for people to enjoy a habit that has been a part of our social culture since before the time of Sir Walter Raleigh. Vaping is a safer alternative.

That's my rant, and I hope that no forum rules in this thread were broken by my posting this. I love you all - LW

The YouTube recommendation system is annoying. If I watch some random video that I don't really care about it will give me related recommendations for weeks. Stuff I watch on a regular basis, I always have to search for. I know I could subscribe to channels, but still...

C'mon, Gmash - you know there's a lot of fluff at YouTube - it just creates more pathways for Google to glean more personal information out of you, especially if you use Chrome; or, the YouTube Android app - which, requires no special permissions, according to Google Play... yet, I wonder why I'm always clearing cache... LW

I don't mind them recommending stuff, it just seems like Google should be better at it. Sort of how the search function of the Play store still sucks after all these years. Ironic because Google is the search giant.

F-O-R-D

Fix Or Repair Daily.

Old joke. Not an opinion. Usually the name made fun of as in So and So's Ford has a puncture in its tire. (Sung to tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic)

I'm not a fan of being broke.

When I was single, I wasn't broke. But like a fool (or a human, I guess), I just had to get into a relationship...

After that, poof!, money all gone. Now I have children who won't leave the house, and those who do always seem to return...
