Help Rattle when in vibrate mode?

Does anyone else's device rattle when its in vibrate mode ...when it vibrates? if i press down on the battery door it stops. I checked and the battery door is seated all the way.

nope. I'm rolling naked. I may go in the store and see if the demo model does it. I don't really want to exchange a device just because of something like that. Its not a major problem but it is very noticeable.

Okay after new testing i have narrowed it down to an external speaker problem.

With the battery cover off the phone still rattles/buzzes when it vibrates and the noise originates at the back speaker.

So i went through various ringtones this morning and sure enough on some ring tones you can hear a hint of a buzz. So mine probably has a bad external speaker....

This sux just because its and inconvenience to have to swap it out for that. But i guess i'll call my buddy at VZW today and tell them to get one ready for me.

Trophy, I think you are right. I noticed this issue with my first Rezound. I also noticed that at higher volume settings, voices and ringtones would distort a little bit through the external speaker. This isn't why I replaced my first one, but it would definitely get annoying over time.

On the new one, there is no distortion at any volume, and no buzz/rattle when in vibrate mode.

cool its good to know i wasn't the only one with this issue in a way. I guess i'll take it back either today or Monday. I think i already know this answer but. ...

you got a brand new one right as your replacement since it was within the return period correct? No refurb? I did this with my DX as long as it was within the return period i got a brand new one.

Brand new in a sealed box. You are allowed one exchange for any reason within 14 days, and you will get a new phone in return. After the first, exchange, you can still exchange for a new phone if there is a defect in your replacement phone(s), but you might have to demonstrate the defect to a VZW store and/or allow the store to inspect for physical/water damage before they will give you another new one. You should be just fine.

FWIW, I got the Inc on release day, and it took 3 phones and 3 months before I got one that worked right. They gave me a new phone each time. The first wouldn't hold a 3G connection, second had a screen that was dimmer on the brightest setting than my wife's Inc on the dimmest setting, and the third would not sync to any email. I did all of my exchanges through FedEx. I remember them telling me that if I didn't bring the defective phone to the store to be checked out first and it there was no problem with the one I returned, or they found physical / water damage, that I would be charged $199 for the replacement. I skipped the store since I knew my issues were legit, and I had no problem whatsoever.

Thanks i actually thought about doing it over the phone instead of going in the store. I did my DX like that. Its such a hastle to go in the store.

A coworker and I just noticed the same thing on our Rezounds. Turns out to be the tiny trim bezel around the charging port. Put your finger on it and the buzzing stops. I put a tiny dab of crazy glue on it and the noise went away.

Agreed. I don't know about your store, but the wait at mine is always 30 minutes, at minimum.

holy cow....your right it is the charging port. Although i'm not sure i want to put a dab of glue on mine. what if over time the glue breaks loose and you have to keep applying...to me that is not a good long term fix. So i think i will still get it replaced.

well crap....the guy i got on the phone now is telling me he can't ship me a brand new one but if i go the store i will get a new one.....lame

9/10 chance the replacement will have the same loose trim! It's a little more snug on mine than my coworker's, but it is still loose.

well....i'm a little frustrated.

First of all. Its actually not the charging port. Take your battery cover off then hold down the volume button down to make it constantly vibrate. The little vibrator sits right next to the charge port. You can see it spin as it vibrates due to the clear back. When you do put your finger on the charging port it does stop. ...for the most part. But only because its putting pressure on the revolving vibrator thingy. It will still do it a little if you turn the phone around in different positions.

Long story short. The Associate in the store told me they couldn't swap it out for that and that i would have to live with it.

I just wanted to update you guys. I'm kind of upset about it so i'm going to take a break and play some #MW3 to get rid of the frustration.

Sounds like you are getting the runaround. Total BS. You might try calling VZW tech support and asking them to enter into your account notes that the store should replace with new. Either way, the policy on the receipt is one exchange within 14 days for any reason- that's the "worry free guarantee."

Did you buy the phone at a corporate store? If worst comes to worst, return it, re-activate your old phone, go home, call VZW, and order a new Rezound for shipping.

I don't get why they are giving you such a hassle. What a load of crap.

Hey guys, I'm actually SamXp's coworker. Just wanted to report to you that as some of you anticipated, the glue has come a bit loose and the vibrating is back.

I understand that it could be the actual vibrate motor, but as soon as i just put a fingernail of pressure on the trim/close-out piece it instantly stops(try it). Furthermore, the glue on the trim piece DID stop the rattle, which to me proves that is what it is. I'm tempted to just take the trim piece off, because if everyone's phone is experiencing this issue, it sounds like a build defect...

yeah take the battery cover off though and watch it. Basically it looks like the vibrating motor is too close to the charging port and its causing the two bezels to vibrate against each other.

I have exactly 8 more days to decide what to do. I'm pretty sure if i raise enough H*** that i can get it replaced. I did get it at a corp store. My blood pressure instantly shot up when the guy first walked up. I showed him the problem. His first sentence out of his mouth was " oh i don't know if my manager will let us replace one just for that" I said your killing me.

He came back from talking to the manager and gave me some BS excuse of why the Demo model wasn't doing it. I said i want to speak to your manager. He said sure. Then came back with an employees phone to show me that his done the same thing.....well guess what that still doesn't make it friggin ok. That just means there is more than one that does it captain obvious. I didn't say that but i was like whatever dude. I had to get out of there before i lost my temper.

dang just typing that up has re ticked me off......

I think i will call customer support on Friday just to tell them of the experience i had. It's like i told the guy on the phone. Its not a major issue now but what happens after its been rattling like that for six months....then i'm stuck getting a refurb if something major happens.

You are 100% right. The night I first got the Rezound, I called CS because my soft keys lit up hot pink, not red. There was also light leakage into the screen and around the bottom of the phone where the face meets the bezel. The CS/Tech Support rep told me that if there was any question now, I should just go to the store and have the phone replaced. He said if I didn't, and decided later on that I couldn't live with the color, or even more importantly, if I noticed that dust got under the screen through the gaps around the bottom, that there was no way I was not going to get a refurb. He then told me that he had marked my phone DOA, and that the store would have to replace it. At the same time, he told me that marking my account was not necessary because I was within my original 14 days, and was entitled to an exchange for any reason. He then said that the account was marked because he wanted to make sure that the store didn't give me any problems about the exchange.

Clearly, the rattle/buzz is not an intentional design attribute of this phone, and just because it's minor now doesn't mean that it wont get worse over time. If it bothers you enough to replace now, or you are concerned about it getting worse in the future, make sure you stand your ground. They will have to replace it. IF CS/Tech Suppert wont ship you a new one, they should note your account so that the store has to replace it when you are there. According to the CS rep that helped me, the store has to follow the instructions that CS/Tech Support puts in your account notes.

yeah the CSR on the phone was pretty helpful and noted my acct pretty much saying that in case they tried to give me crap at the store about it. I don't even think they pulled my acct in the store. I told the guy i had already talked to customer support and they told me to bring it in and swap it. They seriously gave me the run around.

I'll wait and deal with it on Friday by calling customer support on the phone again.

Any updates?

My phone has the same problem... Half (if not less) of the rattle is coming from the charging port trim, and the other half is coming from somewhere else. It's definitely annoying. I talked to a VZW worker and he showed me that the display one had a loose trim piece as well, but it didn't have the same annoying rattle. His excuse was that every phone is completely different when it vibrates (suuure) and that he couldn't do anything and that I should call HTC instead.

I put a little clear silicone in between the trim ring and the phone, let it dry, and it fixed the problem. If you attempt this, please let the silicone dry first, so you adhere the battery cover to your phone. I think this will last a long time because silicone is pliable and wont crack under vibration.

Crap. my 14 days was up today, and my rattle is really bad. Also, I unlocked the bootloader so I think I'm pretty much SOL in exchanging it, even if the VZW people were willing to do it.

So what are our options (besides opening it up and gluing it etc, since that would void the warranty wouldn't it)? I guess I could live with it, but it really is super annoying. I use vibrate a lot. :/
