Razr Re-review with ICS

i was way to impatiant to wait for my ics so i did the leaked version.. i didnt think about it at the time being all excited and it of course wiped everything including some important numbers and text.. my fault for not having a great backup i guess.. but anyways i love learning the new update.. only thing i have noticed that i dont like is, the screen is either to dim on low and to bright on the medium setting on power control widget.. nothing that going into the screen brightness cant fix but i like the convenince of the widget.. and the biggest issue for me is that my contacts synced with facebook do not show the pictures like they used to.. it was a great help thumbing through the contacts and seeing pictures to find who was who quickly.. but so far those are minor and everything is better to me

The facebook pics will return, sometimes after an update or factory reset the pics take a day or two to return.

Still no data drops since the update. I can safely say I have not gone this long without drops (normal was several a day) so funky luck, or previous radio firmware was the problem.

Go into privacy settings.

The option to clear the internal storage is when you press to reset. I think it is off by default, so need to press the box to clear it. I would not do this unless you have back up of data or media you want to keep.

The external card is not affected in the process.

I'm on day 5 of ICS and this morning it seems as though there was a significant slowing of the phone from opening apps to swiping screens. As they day wore on, the slowness went away. Something to make you say hmmmm I just did a restart (not factory data reset) for the heck of it and the speed was backing to being snappy.

I havent got the update yet.. Im not gonna root, so can I just RSD the new OTA (downloaded) file or do I just wait?

No data drops for me so far, but I notice for some reason (even more now) that anywhere there is 3G and 4G I try to only use 3G, the speed seems slower than 3G used to be. I used to have no problem streaming with 3G some months ago, but now it is a problem. The 3G speed seems to stand out more now. Seems like 2.5G now in 4G areas. It could be my imagination...... Look, fairies!

Not the case though for places with no 4G. I think VZW may be displacing resources to 4G and taking from 3G. Only thing that makes sense. Wild guess.

Using the LTEOnOff app, which network do I pick if I want 3G only? There's a couple to pick from which is confusing me.

WCDMA preferred
GSM Only
WCDMA only
GSM auto (PRL)
CDMA auto (PRL)
CDMA only
EvDo only
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
LTE/CDMA/EvDo
LTE/GSM/WCDMA
LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA
LTE only
LTE/WCDMA

Had problems scrolling in Phandroid app. Finally did a hard reset. Problems went away.
Otherwise it's OK. No complaints.

I heard about the active programs app but cannot find it.
Need some sort of a users guide.

Was excited about Chrome, very disappointed. Buggy, awkward, going back to opera soon.
ICS IS Also sluggish returning to home screen.

One gripe about ICS...there is no longer a Charge Only USB connect option. Anyone have any idea if there is a way to get it back?

A couple issues that I am having so far, (received my update yesterday morning 6-28-12)

a) I have had sound issues on all music / radio apps. It has happened on 3 times. Comes back fine after rebooting system.
b) JAVA - I really need this for a couple of online programs.
c) gmail notifications - I am currently not getting any (and yes, I have received some :-)

I have not done it yet, but I agree with a factory reset. I have even advised a co-worker to get her files downloaded and do one prior to ics coming.

btw, I played with my lapdock 500 for a little bit last night. Wow! speed and graphics are much better. For the most part, it acts like a computer / laptop.

I usually use Smart Actions to turn off my background data, etc during the day while I'm at work since I rarely use my phone. It's rather annoying that I now have a notification stuck in my bar about background data being restricted. And I cannot clear the notification.

Settings / location services does not set on GPS,, Tried to download apps, cannot find them on my phone device.

Again, it is in that setting, but here is where you can find the widget....

Apps:

slide to widgets:

slide to the right and find Power Control

That widget size kind of stinks, but it will also allow you to control wifi - bluetooth, sync and screen brightness

I had the same problem when I updated and then reset to stock (Factory Data Reset). Prior to me doing this, I was prepared to post a review with the theme: "ICS, it ain't all that!", but media issues I was having forced me to (sniff-tissue) start from scratch.

Starting clean with this update seems a must to get the best out of it. Again, ICS seems to big a jump from GB to not run into issues for some.

Everything is smooth for me, and that is with 313 apps (I have hording issues).

Added:

Summery: I updated over current GB with all apps and had lag and media issues. Then did a factory data reset and everything was sugar pixies and marshmellow bunnies :)

i had to do a factory reset too, as i was having a bunch of issues with ICS. and when all the smoke cleared, it now runs smoother than sliced bread...or something like that :)

I agree with the factory reset. My phone feels a lil better now.

I remember it being recommended when running different roms on the Droid1. Since this is an upgrade to a new os and not an update, i think it's needed. I remember many evo owners talking about the phone not getting auto factory reset with their ota of gb. Many had to do it after the fact.

Just noticed my SmartActions aren't working right anymore. SmartActions doesn't turn on background sync when it should. Maybe I will need to do a factory reset.

actually dude i spoke with a tech support guy on the phone for a half hour cuz my phone wasnt getting the same 4g lte reception as my girl (same phone). since i was following the ics update chatter i mentioned it to him and he even said for best results do that before updating. since he had a replacement phone sent to me i didnt do it but i wouldve had i known i was going to keep the razr i have
