I was going to ask what kind of bike you were talking about! My mountain bike just needs a dusting and probably should lube the chain and put air in the tires. My motorcycle needs a little bit more work; gotta check air pressure in the tires, run Seafoam through the fuel system (forgot to put StaBil in the tank before I parked for the winter), and the biggie is the hydraulic clutch isn't working at all. Lever is soft, and it isn't releasing at all. I rebuilt the master cylinder and replaced the old cracked and yellowed plastic sight glass with a new quartz glass part last summer, but air got in the system during the winter. So I'm going to rebuild the slave cylinder, hope that does it. Judging by the state of the seals in the master cylinder last summer, I can't see the slave cylinder being in any better shape, so I'm sure that's the problem. Oh, 1984 Honda Magna V65 cruiser, by the way.

. I was stationed in rome NY and I remember pushingb snow off the bombers at the end of april.

Just got my new body kit in with red flames. Legend has it if you paint fire on your vehicle it makes it go faster. We'll see monday

Got the clutch slave cylinder rebuilt and hydraulic system bled, and tossed half a bottle of Seafoam in the tank and then the wife and I hopped on and took it out for a shake-down ride. Had to turn back early, I have a scraping/grinding sound coming from the front somewhere, need to troubleshoot that now. Grrrr.... Hope it's just a sticking brake caliper and not a wheel bearing. Oh well, all a part of riding an old bike I guess; it's 27 years old with 54k miles on it, and I plan on dropping a bit more mileage on it this summer. Doing another Saddle Sore 1000 and then a Saddle Sore 3000, so there's 4000 miles right there, and I'll do more than that. Maybe I can get it up to 60k this year.

One thing about bikes you take care of them and they will last a while. I'll go over 30,000 miles on mine tomorrow! I had a crash in 2008 after getting it and didn't ride much that year, normally ride about 20,000 to 25,000 miles per year..

Dang, you messed that bike up! Nice that you saved it though! Went out and jacked up my bike today so I could spin the front wheel off the ground, definitely grinding coming from there. Pulled both brake calipers off, spins quietly now. Not surprising, the slide pins that hold the pads in and let them slide where pretty dirty and dry, had to hammer 3 of the 4 out of the caliper, so definitely looks like the pads just plain weren't releasing and making the grinding sound. Pads are thin and need replacing anyways, so I'll get new pads, lube up the pins and should be good to go.

I know, right?! I spent $3k to put an aftermarket turbo kit on my 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS, and then I bought the bike a few years later, and it's not even close in comparison. If I want to go fast, I get the bike I paid $2500 out and leave the car I paid over $20k for and then added another $5k in upgrades to parked, because even with the extra power, it's nowhere near as big a blast as the bike!
Getting the front brake pads and an oil filter this weekend. Weather turned to crap here again though, and I live in an apartment, so I can only work on it when the weather is decent. And in oregon this time of year, who knows when that will be! But I'll have the parts ready to go, so as soon as that bitch Mother Nature cooperates with me, I'll be good to go! Can't wait! And I have a paid 2 month vacation coming up this summer, I plan on doing a LOT of riding!

Look I have nothing against hogs, if you want to spend twice as much on one over it's Japanese counter-part, more power to you my man. But to those who pull up to me on a Harley, laugh at me and say something like, "you should pitch that 'Jap-crap' and get you a real bike", I just tell them I don't make as much money as they must. That gives them a feeling of superiority, so they usually shut up, smile and pull away. I don't usually feel like hashing out the plain truth... that Jap bikes are practically bullet proof as long as you seal em up right and change the oil regularly.
My Kaw is an 04 model bought new in spring of 05. Did a hard break-in right off the bat based around MotoMans hard break-in technique. Ran dino-oil for 1500 miles, switched over to semi synthetic for the next 3000 miles, then over to full synthetic which it's been on ever since.
I did a complete tune-up at 20,000 miles when I bought the Akro Evo 1 full titanium system, BMC air filter, velocity stacks, Power Commander III and new plugs and told my mechanic to do the valve readjustment. But after doing all the work to it he told me it was running so good that he recommended holding off on opening her up because a lot of times just splitting the engine disrupts the balance of things. So he said so long as she was purring like a kitten, give her the bennefit of the doubt.
So I took his advice and held off. Last fall she had 41,000 miles and it was time for new plugs. So I took it to my mechanic and told him this time do the valve adjustment no matter what. I figured it was definitely time. Well when I went to pick it up I asked how it went and he said he didn't have to adjust anything. Everything was within spec, and leak down was a measly 1%. He said it was the cleanest looking engine he's ever split open before.
So anyone who's ever been against hard break-ins, I'm here to tell you they really do work great at sealing up those babies. Close to 46,000 miles on her and running like a scalded dog!
