Root Re: No more wifi tethering

After reading a thread earlier that I didn't want to hijack I thought I would ask a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear answer on. I am on Boost with a Prevail using Foxfi. I have only been using it for a month but I was wondering about them catching on and what they would do. I rarely get a fast enough connection to do more than use the web on my tablet. Average speed is 450kbs. I connected my Nexus 7 the fastest ever at 1250 or so that's what Foxfi said today. I was going to root my phone because I had heard it makes it harder for them to catch you but now that doesn't seem the case. What is the advantage of rooting if the only thing I want out of my phone is talk, text, data and tether? Does rooting make the connection faster? I don't know how people are running Netflix and powering Xbox live. I can't even get my Slingbox to run smoothly on the lowest definition. Do different phones give you a faster connection with a a boost tether or is it all location based? If it is the phone, which model phone would be suggested to provides the fastest infrastructure/tether? I hope it's not an issue that my phone is stock but the fact is I am new to this whole root thing.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

as much internal space as you would like for installing apps, for one.

Does rooting make the connection faster?

imho, yes... Infrastructure tethering seems faster/more reliable to me.

yes location is key. Some towers just can't provide adequate speeds

If it is the phone, which model phone would be suggested to provides the fastest infrastructure/tether? I hope it's not an issue that my phone is stock but the fact is I am new to this whole root thing.

I have the same issue

It does not necessarily make the connection faster, that is based on the tower. As for xbox and netflix, you could but it will lag to an extent. Also you probably will have a strict NAT type.

Connection speed is location based

It's really up to you

I should mention that I haven't used an unrooted tether in the past 6 months

And just to add my two cents, I have a friend with no internet access other than wifi tether and his prevail, he runs it for hours and has had no interference from boost.

using ct mod.3.6 with wi-fi tether. i work 12 hr shifts 7 days a week and use phone to connect to internet to watch netflix and chat. been doing so for about a year with no issues from phone or boost.
