Read music FROM sd card?

 I have the Optimus F3, and can move files with the file manager just fine. What I can't figure out--and what I have not been able to find in these forums--is, how to I get the phone to read my massive music library from my SD card to play in Winamp? Or even the stock music player? The phone shows my external SD card and its available memory and all, but I don't know how (or IF) I can get to my music files. Thanks for your help...

Hello and welcome to the forums . I understand you are having a problem with the media player . Can i ask what format is the music and did you attempt to plug up so it can sync to the phone . And how much space is on the sd card , also is this a class 10 card

Brainz, it is a SanDisk card I got when I purchased my old Optimus V; not sure of the class. But it is an 8GB, and has several albums' worth of music (mp3) on it. I was able to get it all with my OV, but I'm using mainly Winamp for Android (perhaps not a good idea?). I have the phone discoverable in WA, but I get a message stating my phone is low on memory. However, there is 7.09GB available on my 8GB SD card...

I guess you could say, I want to be able to play music directly from the SD card without having to transfer it via File Manager to the internal card, since there is only 450MB left in internal memory...

Yeah try the google music if it play i don't think winanp is good . I like real player and jet audio plus is the best it has cross fading and eq also.

With winamp, you have to make sure your music is in a folder named "music" on the root of your microsd card. And make sure there is no ".nomedia" file in there or on the root of the sd card.

It is in a folder named music; no "nomedia" folder anywhere. Winamp still can't find the albums on the SD card..

This is what I'm looking at:

As you can see, there is plenty of space on the external SD card. I just can't get any media player to read from it...

Hmmm.

Have you tried any other media player? Like poweramp.

Or maybe try copying everything off the SD card, then formatting it in the phone, then moving everything back.

Not enough internal memory on the phone... Formatting it "in the phone"?

You can move the files to a pc. The erase is a quick format, under the settings / storage.

Something like poweramp might just work better than winamp too, it could just be a winamp issue.

Okay... so, when loading music via PC to the SD card, do I have to treat it like a USB flash drive and put my albums in separate subfolders?

Well, duh... I guess it would help to make sure there's actually music IN the damn folders before forging ahead!

(Honey? HONEY... toss me that blonde wig over there...):pound:

You don't have to, it should work either way. It might be easier to organize on your end though to have sub folders under the music folder.

Hey at least it an easy fix haha. I thought it was weird your extensive collection was only a few hundred megs.

I used foobar2000 for ripping, tagging and converting my cds.
I then removed the library from foobar and it deleted all the source music but left the just album folders on the pc.
Almost fooled me too, lucky I had the music on a backup drive too.
